I am the same generation as Miltiades and I empathise with some of his views. Yes back in the 50's and 60's Queers, homo's..whatever they were called were looked down on and viewed with suspicion. I think our personal views on homosexuals can be, to some extent, dependant on experiences we may have had with them.
Personally I am uncomfortable being near them and would rather not associate with them. As far as I'm concerned they can do their own thing...but don't try to involve me in any of their sexual activities.
When I was 16 years old back in the UK I experienced something which maybe has clouded my viewpoint.
I stepped of a bus and it was pissing down with rain...I dived into the nearest shelter which happened to be the gents conveniences. Stood there, had a pee, turned round and was face to face with two adult men who were maybe in their 30's or 40's. They both made physical gestures at me, I won't go into details, and made verbal suggestions.
So at 16 years old...shit what do I do..? Well fortunately I s'pose I had a bit of "wherewithall" about me and I told 'em both where to get off and raised my fist at them. The reaction of one of them made me feel sick..he ( for want of a better word ) squealed like a young girl and ran off. The other one followed suit.
So forgive me if I am viewed as...homophobic, if thats the popular term, but there is no way on this planet can I view men like that as normal. I sometimes wonder how some other youngster may have reacted. Had he not had my aggresion, which came to the fore at that time, might he have been coerced into some sexual activity with those perves.
I am sure that there are homosexuals out there who are useful members of society who fit in as it were, but personally I find their sexual preferences to be abhorent. Go ahead and do your own thing..just don't try to involve me.
