By what principles does Turkey support Pakistan in the Kashmir issue ?

Is it simply Muslim solidarity ?

Pakistan was on the UNSC when the 1983 resolutions regarding the UDI of north Cyprus were voted on. Pakistan was the only country that opposed the resolutions. Also, if you remember, last year, when Turkish Cypriot Leader Talat met with President Mushariff, the visit had all the trappings of an official state visit.

Pakistan was established as a majority-Muslim state from British India, and as such, it has a policy of supporting Muslim peoples over the world in their national aspirations.

The Muslim peoples of Cyprus did not constitute a majority in Cyprus as a whole nor were they a majority in any region of Cyprus. No matter how you could carve up Cyprus, the GCs would always be an overwhelming majority in any region. There is no way the national aspirations of the Muslim peoples of Cyprus could be fulfilled without violating Democratic Principles.

The Muslims of India were concentrated (majority) in two areas which subsequently broke away and became independent nations.

So Pakistan thinks denying the national aspirations of an overwhelmingly Muslim majority (Kashmir) is wrong. But it is OK to support the denial of the same to an overwhelmingly Christian majority (Cyprus) ? It seems for the Pakistanis Islam comes before Democratic Principles ? This is not a message that they should be sending out in this post 9/11 world.

This is a great answer and should be the Archetype response to their inane demands for recognition and self-determination.

But how long before they remove the memory of the ethnic cleansing they have carried out to construct such a region of Muslim dominance in Cyprus, and then claim that they have Muslim Dominance in the north, for long enough to count towards recognition as a separate state?

The EU has to address this swiftly, to avoid loss of its rightful territory IMHO!
