Small computing problem

Postby Tim Drayton » Thu Aug 14, 2008 9:43 am

The memory stick that I am using has, of its own accord, slipped into read-only mode. It will not let me save anything new on it (and, no, it is not full!). I usually approach my IT supplier with this kind of thing, but as luck would have it he is on holiday. Does anybody know where you you locate the setting that makes a memory stick "read only" so that I can undo it? Many thanks in advance if anybody knows and can assist.

find the stick via my computer, or computer depending on which op system you are using.
Then right click on the icon, then unclick the read only button at the bottom.
Should rectify it.

Many thanks for your assistance. Will this remove all the data stored on the memory stick?

Thanks for the link. The answers here suggest that this make of memory stick should be avoided. I think I will follow this suggested answer:

"Easiest fix of all.....throw the piece of **** away and buy a new one....Not PNY though."

Can anyone recommend a reliable brand of memory stick for me to buy? This was the first one I have ever owned believe it or not. I have been using floppy disks until recently!
