Morphou 'off the table'

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Morphou 'off the table'

Postby eracles » Wed Aug 13, 2008 11:40 am

"News reports revealed yesterday that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan assured Turkish Cypriot officials, especially the opposition, during a visit to the north last month that Güzelyurt would never be returned to Greek Cypriot control. "

Sorry, but what has Erdogan got to do with this?

Aha....

"As Cypriot leaders are readying for comprehensive negotiations set for next month, the town of Güzelyurt in northwest Cyprus will not be on the table as a bargaining chip for the Turkish side considering Turkey's recent investments in the area. "

Nice to see Turkey supporting the reunification process.

I never accepted the arguement that we should be talking to Erdogan not Talat, but this makes my blood boil and question Talat's 'power' to negotiate a solution.

If not Morphou then what? The buffer zone and part of Famagusta? This is the generosity of our "compatriots"? And in exchnge we are supposed to dissolve the RoC? What is the attraction in this setup?

Someone needs to have their heads examined.

Correct, we had Morphou in the pocket in 2004 and decided to go along with Denktash instead.

If they are offering Karpasia instead then we will have a GC component statet broken up in three pieces- the wester part, the eastern part bordered by the sea to the south and east, TC area to the north and the Dhekelia base to the west. Then there will be a bit of Karpasia 50 miles away from the nearest GC area. And all this will be demilitarised.

With this setup the largest solid chunk of land on Cyprus will be the TC area. Anyone who does not see the strategy behind this deal is a schmuck.

In 2004 Turks had the whole Cyprus in their pocket but we were not fools to accept that.

Eracles, there will never be a negotiated agreement because the Turks want full control of the north of our country(=partition) plus the ability to silence and veto the whole island.(=we loose what we have). We would be fools to accept such thing.

So the less they "offer" the better, because it will mean that less people would be enticed to fall in their trap. In fact if the offer is even worst than Annan plan then that means that there will be not even the need to place it in a referendum and nobody will be able to blame us for this since the Annan plan was already rejected so nobody would expect from us to accept somehting even worst.

No surprise here. This is a country who has obviously lost all control on who says what during these negotiations.

The rejectionists have spoken. Imagine if they had an atomic bomb at their disposal.
