Shotguns and air rifles.

Postby connor » Wed Aug 13, 2008 7:13 am

G.morning,

I quite fancy taking up clay pigeon shooting and also target shooting with air rifles. My questions are...

1) Can anyone advise on the procedure for obtaining licences for these activities here in Cyprus.?

2) Regarding shotguns, I would be a complete novice at this sport, so are there training courses available here for handling these guns..?

3) What might I expect to pay for reasonable quality guns..?

4) I live in the Larnaca area..is there a clay pigeon shooting facility in this district..or maybe a shooting club..?

Thanks any info would be much appreciated...

Welcome to target shooting. I do not live in Cyprus, but know that Laranca has a clay shooting range. Another one is operated near Limassol by the Beretta importer.

Cost for a decent shotgun suitable for clays would start from 1500 Euro.

Look up www.shootingclub.org and www.cssf-shooting.org for more info.

Taken from another forum, I guess the same will apply to Shotguns too!

1) visit to agia napa police station for the form to apply for a licence take your passport immigration slip and a utility bill to confirm your address.
2) take the form from agia napa to paralimni police station who will then fill in a form so you can purchase an air rifle 177 only.
3) you have 1 month to purchase the air rifle before the form runs out make sure you take the form to the gun dealer, i went to nicosia to purchase a weihrauch from the dealer in nicosia that bill has provided a link to and found them very helpful. they filled in the details on the form and i took the gun a way with me in a rifle bag.
if you intend to import a rifle you will need a different form from paralimni?
4) take the gun and the form back to paralimni police station for inspection and you will be given your licence costs under 30 euro,s.

2) Regarding shotguns, I would be a complete novice at this sport, so are there training courses available here for handling these guns..?

Haven't heard of such, but I am sure if you ask at the shooting ground, there maybe a resident shooter willing to show you.

3) What might I expect to pay for reasonable quality guns..?

Cheap and cheerful around Cyp£500-cyp£600, for a decent one for the job cyp£1000 and up.

4) I live in the Larnaca area..is there a clay pigeon shooting facility in this district..or maybe a shooting club..?

Larnaca does not have a shooting ground, although there was one supposedly to open in Klavdia, but has various planning issues. There used to be one near the salt lakes but has since closed down.

There is one in Paralimni, Limassol, Nicosia and one in Paphos.
They are all pay as you go, get tokens from shop and DIY. You would need to be with someone to press the button for you. I am into this sport, if you wanted to come to paralimni, you could have a bash with my gun and see if its for you before you spend any money. Upto you.

Good luck
