Opening a Pandora’s box over property

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

reimbursed for the difference in property value.

sorry about that. i realized it didnt make sense. i just wanted to make sure that by reimbursement I was clear that they would get their properties back as well as the difference between their current property value and the current net worth of their property in the north. something which GCs are also willing to accept (ot the hen and the goose as you put it)

I got the point (a) but not point (b). Are you saying that TCs do not have right to political equality? If so read 1960 constitution and decide if we have rights to political equality or not. Also are you suggesting that if GCs get their property back they will give the political equality?

Point b means that TCs are entitle to political equality as much as GCs are entitled to ALL their land back.

The 1960 constituion also says all citizens have the right to free and safe enjoyment of their properties. Let's not only read whatever part benefits us turkcyp.

Or civil employee Ayten had built a house to her son who had just finished the military service and next to that house she also had built an extra house to be rented to UK Brits in the summer time because she knows that a villa in north Cyprus can fetch up to 500 British founds per week in Cyprus in rental income.

Now is civil employee Ayten a property developer?

IF she is exploitng Greek Cypriot owned land then Ayten can be legitiamtely sued.

Although the government has distinguished between the occupation of Greek Cypriot homes and properties by Turkish Cypriots who abandoned their homes to occupy Greek Cypriot owned properties in the occupied areas, at law these people are occupying Greek Cypriot properties illegally. There is nothing preventing legal action against these people. There is no legal basis for anyone other than the legal title holders of Greek Cypriot owned proerpties to occupy these homes.

Nothing was"exchanged" in law, treaty or otherwise.

Negligable numbers of Greek Cypriot refugees were housed in homes abandoned by turks. Greek Cypriot were living in tent accomodation for MONTHS after the invasion. This has been documented by the UN. Many thoudands of refugees were forced to flee overseas.

The myth that properties were 'exchanged' is a lie which is perpetuated by the Turkish Cypriot leadership.

If Ali Talat is a "dove of peace" he must immediately acknowledge that there was no" exchange of properties" and he must acknowledge the ethnic cleansing of the Greek Cypriots in Occupied Cyprus. There is no chance of anegotiated solution if the Turkish leadership continues to whitewash the ethnic cleansing of Cyprus.

Court is the only way to deal with people who ignore the Law.

We will return developed properties or properties which have been invested in and you will return back demolished properties

I hope the properties are not designed by architects trained in Turkey -not a single building is left standing whenever ther is an earthquake in Turkey. What do you guys build your homes out of LEGO (TM).

There next illegal development in the occupied areas will be called LEGOLAND

Agios Amvrosios,

Are you still alive? I was hoping you be dead by now. (Metaphorically I am speaking.)

By the way your village team made it to the first division of football. That is the team from Agios Amvrosios. Or should I say Esentepe.

Congratulations. Pity you were not there to enjoy it.

Life goes on man. Get a life may be one day you will start enjoying it.

So what do TP statements that no TC were killed by GC in the period 63-74 do to the chances of a negotiated settlement then?

ps in case anyone is wondering I got sent home from miltary service to fix a broken PC for the army. Back again this afternoon.

That feels a little unfair to me magic. I try my best to not 'overplay' what happened to my uncle. I talk about it always reactively (imo) and in context of existing threads, to remind people that there has been pain and loss and suffering before 74 and beyond just property. I try to also engage in the disucssions about potential ways forward. In short I do not think I am as 'single minded' as AA appears to be over the issue of the return of his former properties. The fact is my aunt has moved on, she has done her best to put this tradgey behind her. She does not (and did not) dress in black and stand in front of tourists wailling for her loss. She internalises her pain not externalises it. She has not tought her children hatred for GC as a result of her tradgedy (her son recently returned to Cyprus sends all 5 of his children to schools in the south for one example and bears no grudge against GC as a community / people). Maybe I am being a little prickly here but it still feels a little unfair being told that I should also be told 'get a life and move on'. My life and that of my family is not dominated by a single issue. We have 'got on with our lives'.

erol

absolutley not. sorry if i brought up a touchy topic but I was trying to prove to turkcyp the point that telling AA to move on with his life and move on is a pretty petty comment to make.

i know he was responding to AA personally but regardless of how he feels about AAs level that doesnt mean he was to strive to reach it especially when it comes to such topics.

your aunt is a very respectable person for not passing on any hate to her children. i also feel the same applies to all the refugess in my family (aka everyone on my moms side). never have i heard them say anything about TCs. I remember when I visited the north I was so angry when I saw my mom sobbing and having to ask persmission to walk into her home (occupied by settlers) and when I told her why are you even asking she told me "what can I do. this is how things turned out"

so as you correctly put it we "have got on and moved with our lives" but i dont think anyone affected by the cyprus problem will every be able to truly move on until at least it is settled.

Well my parents had to ask the the G.Cs living in my parent's house in Limassol aswell. You cannot just open the door and get in, while these people were living in that house. I hope I do not get what you want to imply differently.
