Here you go Bananiot...

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Nikitas » Wed Aug 13, 2008 8:00 am

"Obviously you do not care much about Greece or Cyprus for Greece will never fight a war with Turkey " sais Bananiot.

WHo is talking about war? Why go that far? If Turkey annexes the north, then obviously the south will have to do something about it. It would be dumb not to expect a Cypriot and Greek response in such a case, and it would be even dumber for Cyprus to remain alone and undefended in case it happens.

You assume that war over CYprus would be initiated by Greece. The facts since 1974 show beyone doubt that the party pushing is not Greece. Daily violations of air and sea space and the situation in Cyprus compose a picture which shows that aggression is imposed on Greece.

As for winning or losing that is hard to predict with modern weaponry of which both countries own about the same amounts. What makes you think that Greece is bound to lose?

You do not contemplate war to start with but you end with an assumption that the odds for the outcome of war will be even. You do this because war is at the back of your mind, may I say. Do you really believe that Greece can fight a war with Turkey 500 miles away from the main land? This question has been answered by the experts and every time the answer that came was "no". You are asking for Greece to commit suicide, let me tell you again and in the process to destroy Cyprus.

We should forget about war altogether and put it out of the equation once and for all. Even a war won by any side will only prepare the ground for the next one. Enough is enough, let us look to a brighter future for all of us. What is done is done.

P,S. So, at last, this is our difference Sotos. You suggest we sit tight and wait for the right opportunity to attack and liberate the north. Why do I think I have heard this tune before (pali me xronia me kairous pali dika mas thanai). Do you not think that Constantinople has priority?

Why is it that those who consider a bloody war do not digest that such an act would be a catastrophe for Greece but more so for Cyprus , as well as the T/Cs and Turkey itself . Any one drawing their attention to the likely outcome of such a misguided adventure is labelled either a coward or a traitor. We are engaged in war at the moment that we can win , and are winning .The political war spurned on by the UN refusal to recognise the "TRNC" , the USA also refusing to do so , and encouraged by the EU position as regards a part of their territory under Turkish occupation.
Not one single member of the EU would encourage , or rather put forward a war as an option. We currently have a perfect example unfolding in front of us with Georgia in the throes of a Russian assault as a result of some warmonger thinking with his feet first.
A war with Turkey will solve nothing , the current situation will persist and worst events would develop , and as Bananiot says it will set in place conditions for another war and another and another . Negotiations need not be hampered by our willingness to peacefuly and politically achieve our goal ,l which is a solution based on human rights and equality of all Cypriots.

It is enough that if Bananiot says we should not do something, that is precisely what we should consider, since he thinks only of the good of the Turks IMHO. There is no doubt a war with Greece would leave Turkey in pieces ... Nirvana

But first Cyprus, then Constantinople ... that is the priority.

Miltiades, I am more than happy to fight the war mongers, whatever race they are, even the barbarians that learned Greek and think that they are Greeks.

"We should forget about war altogether " we wish, but the adversary has 40 000 soldiers, three naval bases, one huge air base on OUR LAND! Not thinking of what these things are for is GROSS negligence.

During the Imia crisis Erbakan criticised the government of Ankara for not bombing Athens. Had they started bombing what would you do? Keep your arms crossed protesting your peaceful instincts or organize yet another Dalaras concert for peace!

By the way, the distance is not 500 miles, it is more like 220 miles from Crete to Cyprus and well within the range of the S300s which were stationed there.

There is some confusion here about the use of military force. If you plan to attack and do so, and fail to achieve your objectives then you LOSE. If, on the other hand, you are defending, and can manage to do so then you WIN.

Just keep in mind which side is on a course of territorial conquest here, so we can all retain a sense of perspective. Notions like "two separate states", "grey areas", "median lines in the Aegean", etc are not thought up by our side, and those that think them up just might decide one day to impose them with arms. In that case the fight is brought to our door. Not preparing for that is behaving like total losers. Might as well emigrate now if you think that way, because sooner or later one of those notions will be put into effect. Just remember Imia.

So, what is stopping Turkey undertaking a pre emptive attack now Nikitas, since you have revealed your intentions?

S300? Have they not produced a couple of new models by now, making the S300 obsolete?

The new models do not automatically make older ones obsolete.

You are avoiding the issue. The occupation of the north, the continued maintenance of troops there with so much armor and air support puts the whole of Cyprus under constant threat. You seem to indicate that it is OK to live under this threat simply because it has not been used so far. That is a pathetic way to live.
