Bringing your dog into Cyprus from another country?

Postby junemichael » Fri Aug 08, 2008 2:32 pm

Are you or a friend bringing your dog to Cyprus within the next couple of months? If so would you be kind enough to not leave your dog carry box at the airports, like a lot of people do, and contact us with your arrival date so the box could be donated to us? We rescue many cats and dogs and send many to the UK to new homes (last month we sent 2 dogs and 18 cats to new homes in the UK). We would collect the box on your arrival to Cyprus - if you leave it at the airport it just get destroyed and we are so desperate for these boxes. We don't get any money and pay for the costs of the animals to go to new homes out of our own pockets so need all the help we can get. If you have a dog box at home now that you could donate please contact us. In exchange we can offer you advice on pet passports and animal care. Our phone number is 99786403 or 99942891 or email us on [email protected]. Thank you.

Why don't you arrange directly with the pet arrivals section to call you when one is left.

We were approached by someone wanting our box for his puppies at Paphos. But we travel regularly with the dog, so we chose to hold on to it (it cost £200). But we would have gladly given it away if we had no more use for it as we had to hire a big enough car to transport it.

Could you not put up a poster at the place where the animal is handed over with your phone number?

Maybe you just need to explain to them the situation in detail as I have found they bend over backwards to be helpful and friendly, both bringing and taking animals to Cyprus.

Can you advertise for such boxes at the veterinary surgeries or on the bases? I am sure they would help. As you say, things are not always easy here. Good luck :)

We used to get them sent over from the UK but the airlines have stopped doing it and we know many people leave their big dog boxes behind at the airports, and although we have asked the airports to keep them they don't bother. We are sending 6 large dogs over to the UK, dogs that have been in the Moni shelter for over 3 years and now have new homes that we have found, but we need the travel boxes to send them, so please if you have a box or know of anyone bringing a dog over to Cyprus and would give us their box at the airport please let us know. Thank you so much.

Who pays for the dogs to be flown from one country to another and all the necessary jabs?

What about Carbon footprints etc?

Is this really the best way to use up resources?

Did you know there are thousands of dogs already in the UK up for "adoption". Should you be sending more? :? Surely those people wanting dogs can be satisfied from a moggy closer to home, without all this expensive, wasteful fuss. Then the money you save could be used on vets fees to sterilise other dogs / cats.

airlines do accept wooden home made boxes. must be to spec of course but enough info on the net. you don't need to send loads of money on one. the company we used to fly our dogs, fly dogs all around the world for the american airforce people when the are stationed else where. they just make wooden plywood boxes to fit the dogs requirements. our friend is now using ours as a puppy play house. recyclable.

there are certain people over here who are trying their best to help the over population of dogs who have nothing and nobody, whilst suggestions can be genuine and worthwhile, if you do not live on this Island you must realise that things are done differently. Please listen to the voice of people who have tried eveything and try and help them the best you can they are doing everything in their power for the poor animals here who have nothing and need support with their achievements and efforts.
