Bringing my cats to Cyprus

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

When I moved to Cyprus I brought my dog..and a pet Mynah bird.

On arrival we were met by a government vet at Larnaca airport. I had to pay him a "Home quarrantine" fee, enabling me to take the dog and the bird to our new residence where they had to reside for 6 months before being allowed off that property.

The amount paid..from memory was 100/150 Cyprus pounds. The vet met us outside his normal working hours so we had to pay an "overtime fee".

Cannot remember the amount but the attending customs official also had to be paid..at an overtime rate.

I was given official government receipts at that time.

Maybe I still have those receipts along with other paperwok of the time.

Further to my previous reply.

I can remember being told that the fees I would have to pay depended on which officials met me at the airport.

I went through this procedure in 1988...maybe things have changed since then.

I also had to pay customs men an overtime fee since the container we shipped from the UK arrived at our house outside normal working hours. Again I was given receipts for this.

Yes Connor .. I posted a link to the fees for quarantine and for people coming from outside the EU.

As I said I did not pay any fees.

If you look at the link posted twice on this thread so far  ... you will see that there are no inspection fees to pay from the EU (unless there is a problem I suppose such as quarantine) ....

But our dog was inspected by a vet also as I said (even though someone else seemed to "think" she knew better off the top of her head) ... and we did not have to pay inspection fees to any Official no matter the stripes!

OK fair enough.

Obviously things have changed since we joined the EU. Maybe someone else had older information in their head.

Thankyou for clarifying that.

Oracle sweetie

You are obsessed with 'COST PER STRIPE'!  WHY? I HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH PER STRIPE, SATISFIED! ALL I KNOW IS, THE HIGHER THE RANK (MORE STRIPES) THE HIGHER THE COST!

Also, if I print something positive about Cyprus, in your eyes and that of your 'hemorrhoids' that is ok - but you still think we are 'covering up' something sinister! On the other hand if myself (or anyone else for that matter) even attempts to say anything constructive and helpful to others which is not to your liking - you all take it the wrong way and label us GC bashers?

There is just no reasoning with people like you

Just waiting to see how you twist this post in your 'political' way sweetie pie :(

Why, was the cat dangerous?

I think the door to the carry-cage was faulty.

.... bit like Bubbles' brain (last time she tried to open her mind, her brain fell out, and no one has seen a sign of it since  )

I suppose the op has now turned tail and ran and decided to try somewhere else other than Cyprus :-)

We brought a dog and 2 cats prior to Cyprus becoming part of the EU and were allowed Home Quarantine. However, now we are part of the EU I believe the rules and regs have changed somewhat. I understand that animals coming in are under the Pet Passport regime.

Although it cost us extra, we used Paphiakos to help us arrange the paperwork, mainly because our pets were coming in through Larnaca and us via Paphos airports.

It may be different for USA though so you would be better to contact the Government Vet for whichever district you will be entering into Cyprus and possibly where you aim to become a resident of. Unfortunately, you may find that as it is August, the government offices may be on skeleton staff just now.
