Yes but at least we know Bananiot should not have used an extra "S" after the apostrophe ....

Alexiss asked

"Aren't mainland Greeks laughed at in Cyprus? "

Can you name one instance when a Cypriot TV or radio show tried to induce laughter by the mainland accent or mainlander caricature? I can't.

The depiction of the Cypriot caricature who sticks an "N" at the end of every word and is dumb is a classic one on Greek media. Just one example- Mitsikostas who satirized the Cypriot woman who took part on some game show. He impersonated the character of a Cyprtio newsman, the name was Kikos Kikou, the accent overdone and hammed, but the text was the insult, portraying the patriotic temperament of the Cypriot but in relation to the woman's panties. It was funny, but can you find another instance of a similar treatment to other regional idiosyncrasies? When other local cutlures are satirised the actors are usually from that region, for instance Karayannidis and Klynn who are Pontians making fun of Pontians.

When you have the threat of being rediculed naturally you clan together. I am willing to bet that TC students in Turkey do the same.

And finally the people from my mother's island are a lot more clannish than Cypriots and band together informally as well as formally, having created an association which is quite rich too and owns choice real property. And you know what, they do not like me much because I am not 100 per cent pure bred.

I don't watch TV so I wouldn't know who's satirizing whom the most, and it's not important anyway.

What I know is how everyday people on the street react to someone different. Walk down Ermou street in Athens on a Saturday morning and you'll see and hear tens of Cypriots, they talk louder than humanly possible and yet you don't see the locals stopping and staring, which is exactly what happens to me every time I'm in Cyprus and am heard talking. But the difference is that, unlike most Cypriots, I don't care. There are jerks everywhere, someone who laughs at a Cypriot because of his accent would laugh at anyone given the slightest chance.

The world doesn't hate Cypriots, it's the other way around.

Sotos, you know that we know now, not to believe him, but Bananiot did not know, that we now know, not to believe him, so we had to let him know, we now know not to believe him .....

Glad to see that your also on the bandwagon Kikapu. So, you are all by now dead certain that the reason I started this thread was to discredit Photini.

Please go ahead and think like this if it makes you feel better. I am only too glad to contribute to your current therapy session. Call me if you need anything else.

I'm sorry Oracle, but that's what I've experienced so far, Cypriots are very xenophobic, even towards Greeks
