IS THERE A POLICE FORCE IN CYPRUS ?

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Postby Novus » Mon Aug 04, 2008 1:21 am

About four years ago I was visiting with family in Cyprus and at my aunt and uncles house my mother was taking a shower when she slipped and fell in the bathtub. It was upstairs bathroom and she had locked the door. Since she was hurt and could not get up to unlock the door, we could not get to her. We ended up calling the number for emergency response.
We expected the fire department or something to arrive, but a cop shows up. After assessing the situation he rolls a metal barrel over to the side of the carport (I helped), climbs on the carport roof and crawls in the small bathroom window to unlock the door from the inside.

....lazy he was not.

oooh...there was a drunken pontian shouting dowsntairs near my car... he was so pissed he could barely stand on his feet. Then he phoned someone and started swearing badly...then began hitting a wheel on one of the parked cars nearby... that was outside of a full scaled gambling shop in our neighbourhood... (mini casino)

I called the police, told them there was a drunken pontian misbehaving 12:00 at night... if the bastard touches my car i will come downstairs and beat him up... they asked for an address, said they will dispatch a car...

no one came.

Oooh... and that mini casino. Everyone knows it exists... even some police guy i know told me its probably covered by someone inside. Is doing so well that they opened another one few kilometers away.

here you go...

1 time they did the job right tho, no offense... there was a break-in in our cafe, some Romanian guy came on a stolen motorbike to steal a 50" plasma TV... on Friday, 2:00 in the morning. Ofcourse someone saw him called the police and they were waiting for him outside 2 minutes later.

2 minutes! wow... forgot to mention, the cafe was opposite Germasoyia Police Station. :D :D :D they still had time to finish their coffee!!! :D

They exist, they are gorgeous and they fulfill all expectations ....

..... especially the ones on motorbikes 8)

Haba haba

Book me!

That'll be a DVD Boxset of 'CHiPs' for your Christmas present then.

According to the blurb on the box:

Where the rubber meets the road and the bad guys meet the badge - that's where you'll find California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers Jon (Larry Wilcox) and Ponch (Erik Estrada).

Set in the sun-drenched sprawl of Los Angeles, CHiPs combines action, heroics and fun in 22 Season One episodes whose event-packed storylines range from freeway gridlock (let's use a circus elephant to tow that broken axled-truck!) to wild roadway pursuits (who's that beautiful woman lead-footing a Rolls Royce?), from spilled onions (crying time, fellas) to pure venom (an overturned van loaded with... sssnakes!).

Attention all units: Report now for arresting entertainment!

magnus....i find it amusing and fascination you just happen to have a box set of CHiPs laying around to quote.
should i post some of the photos of me & Erik Estrada? i met him a few times. LOL

The same kind of thing happens in Australia. Ever thought that the police may not have had the resources to meet your expectations, as perhaps other more serious crimes may have been occurring at that particular time?

And those mini casinos you mention, would not be Kafenia by any chance? We have these Kafenia in Australia as well. They are actualy gambling houses as well, despite gambling being illegal. So what? Our police force here in Australia is not that interested in a bunch of old men playing cards! They probably have more important issues to worry about, such as drug trading, murder or rape!

Kafenio, gambling in plain sight, sounds like Harringay in London, and police, always dignified walking by and doing nothing. Are they on the take too?

An American, asked why he has a license for a concealed carried weapon answers: cause a cop is too heavy on my belt. Response time in most American cities is about 30 minutes. A lot can happen in 30 minutes. So this monopoly of force and limiting citizen's rights to defend themselves is relegated to theory.

Well, I doubt that these Kafenia will be bribing the police. I think in this case, the police just tolerate them. At 1 time, I remember they did sting 1 Greek and 1 Italian Kafenio, simultaneously. They arrested a few mostly older men, and released them on bail. They appeared in court and got a very small fine. So generally, I think the police are no longer interested in these gambling activities. The Kafenia in question are still trading.

As far as Australian police being on the take else where. Well, who knows! Maybe they are. Some corruption within the police force was uncovered in the not too distant past. The majority of our cops would be clean and innocent, but there may still be some bad eggs about. Corruption is worldwide.

In the 'TRNC' police forces are under the military forces of mainland Turkey and not the local government minister. Frolicking with the enemy are we? :?

Oh, and dinner? Bribery?

I've never felt unsafe in London, not even on my own 3am in places like Soho or King's Cross area. I'm sure I'd feel safe in the 'TRNC' as well. But who knows? Perhaps the police would lock me up for wearing the Cyprus national football team shirt?
