Who has been your worst boss and why?

Postby Z4 » Sun Aug 03, 2008 1:04 pm

I have had some pretty shitty Team Leaders/Managers.

I can think of two immediatley.

One Team Leader was so miserable she never even spoke to us before about 11am. She was always away from her desk, on fag breaks, down at the kitchen eating bacon butties or just generally sciving. I remember coming back from holiday one morning she never even said welcome back, or asked how my break was nor did the fat cow even say good morning!....She also reeked of fags, coffee and cheese and onion crisps!

Another one of my Managers put me on extended probation (not just me but all four of us new guys) for no reason what so ever. He just said he wants to see more from me, exactley what he meant who knows!.

What about your worst Boss?

Me, cause I am a slave driver and control the work force (me again) totally. Weekends and holidays are unknown terms. Reading those ads about becoming your own boss and gaining freedom gives me a good laugh.

My old boss used to get really drunk at lunch time. People used to avoid him in the afternoon. Most amusing really :) Main reason I believe Masons run most things as no-one above him ever mentioned it, or the other manager who was a moron but stayed for years without doing much.

Cheers

When I first started in Travel, My Manager had permanant PMT,expected Me(because i was a man), carry out all the heavy lifting, would take a 3 hour lunch break and then announce that we could take 20 mins each as she was off home early. 3 Years on as a Manager myself at another agency,we bought out a chain of independant Travel Agents, Guess, who I had to re-interveiw for Her old position????(Now I could have been mature and conduct myself in a proffesional manner, but i wasn't), So Jane Palmer from Bolton, Now you know.....

Z4,

I have never had anyone in an employee-employer relation with me. I always used independent contractors when I was in publishing. It is a matter of personal principle not economics. It would have been cheaper to have employees, but I preferred equal partners. I paid for it, in terms of effort and work, but if I were to do it all over again this is one thing that would stay the same. The one thing I would add would be holidays and weekends.

I had another boss who demanded his sales guys to work one hour over everyday (at least) and four hours during the weekends - unpaid! He looked like the guy from Slade the one with curly hair
