Cypriot title-holders Anorthosis Famagusta were paired with Olympiacos in the Champions League Third Round Qualifier, in the mother of all battles, between the 'rivals' from Cyprus and Greece.

Anorthosis are in search for their Champions League debut in the financially lucrative group stages, and will be bouyed by their results to date.

The refugee club, who are temporarily based in Antonis Papadopoulos stadium in Larnaca, were worthy 3-0 victors against SK Rapid Vienna in the first-leg tie, and will be confident of progressing into the latter stages. Olympiacos will await the eventual winner.

Meanwhile, AC Omonia will play AEK Athens in the Uefa Cup Qualifying Round Two, confirming the mini-regional football battle.

UEFA Cup Qualifying Round Two - 14-28 August 2008 Omonia vs AEK Athens

The Anorthosis clash will inevitably spark memories of their other previous meeting in the Champions League in 1998. Olympiacos were the winners, 2-1 in Athens, and 4-2 in Larnaca, eventually beating the Cypriot side 6-3 on aggregate.

Lets first see if they will pass to the next round. Olympiacos is in a different league in my opinion.
