Chronicles of the U.K.

Postby Oracle » Wed Jul 30, 2008 11:14 pm

Life back in the UK after several months absence in the land of the living, Cyprus. 8)

Terminal 5 is a modern, pseudo Richard Rogers-inspired Hades :?

BA Information desk  A dozen state of the art computers and 3 Asians manning them failed to come up with any idea where BA may deliver their cargo of trusted family pet. The best they could come up with was, go outside the Terminal and ask a Taxi driver

BA .... You Stink! :P

BTW: The High-tech Car locator at the Parking Lot does not work!

Poor Hubby was lulled into ignoring where he parked by this contraption, but the extra hours delay whilst we circled overhead at Heathrow to take in the glorious views of Staines revealed the folly of this trust!

Still the garden is lush and verdant, if not overgrown and wild.

Glad to hear that you had a good time Stella!

No mishaps on your return journey - I am not surprised really - nothing bad ever happens to you this end!

That was just the beginning.

Arrived home to find that hubby had been battling (unsuccessfully) with Local Council Tax authority who have decided our house is too big to be given only One Council Tax Band so they have decided after 127 years since it was built, that it now deserves TWO council Tax bills because it has (but always had) two front doors

I note they waited till my absence before daring with this folly. :P

Minion has appointment to meet his Nemesis (your truly) next week.

We are already paying 10 times more in Council Tax for ten times less in space then equivalent in Cyprus ..... logic

Sorry! It must just be you then.

We never had a problem with our local CT office - even after moving here and keeping our property back home. They went above and beyond their call of duty with phone calls and e-mails to keep us updated! :)

Once we sold our property the overpaid Council Tax was refunded within a week; now that is what I call service. :D

Our house has historical significance and this is more a ploy to make us fall into a Capital Gains trap ...

All our smaller properties, (like your home probably :) ) have not attracted much interest from them also, and have been fine ... but where they smell real money ... I am afraid they are going for the kill ...

(Still I have no intention of selling, so they are wasting their efforts  )

Just because you are old does not give your house 'historic value'!

You still have soooooooooooo much to learn - and getting older by the minute Stella
