guys you all need some reading to do...these things are so simple.

Any CYTA DSL Modem with antenna can have Wifi Enabled + Firewall + Security...

The reason of CRASHING... ( first of all lets not call this CRASHING but DISCONNECTING... ) could be the following:

Frequency Jamming... switch to different channel... everyone is using channel 11 these days, if 2 routers with same channel in close proximity you will have a nightmare. Also some old analogue devices such as cordless phones, radio nannies, wireless TV signal transmitters can really screw up your connection... Since Cyprus buildings mostly built of thick concrete & metal your signal really doesn't travel that far. And another issue... you have people leaching your Wifi if its unsecure, depending on your router setting...anytime who connects on your network will automaticaly kick your session out. So, get a 100Eur wirelss router such as 3Com, Buffalo, DLink etc and set it up using easy wizards.

Hi Bubbles,

Did you get this problem fixed?

Seeing as it's just disconnecting from the internet, it will probably be a glitch with your router. You can usually fix this by just hitting the reset button on the router or just unplug it from the power, leave it off for about 20 seconds and plug it back in. It would be best if you turn off the laptop while you do this, then wait for the lights to stop flashing on the router before starting the laptop up again.

Most routers have several lights on the front, and the ones that you usually need are labelled 'power', 'sync' and 'ready'. When these stop flashing rapidly then it's ready and you should just turn the laptop on as usual.

As has already been suggested, you can try using a cable instead of wireless connection if that's convenient. If you see that it's working with a cable but not wireless then it's going to be a problem with the antenna and possibly the router itself.

As a precaution, you could try doing a virus check on your laptop. Even though Antivirus should catch them when they appear, it doesn't hurt to do a scan just to make sure it's clear.

As Ray said, there is a possibility that other equipment is causing a problem with your wireless, so check the instruction manual and see if it's possible to change the frequency it broadcasts on.

It is very advisable to make sure that your connection is secured with a password as it wil stop other people stealing your internet connection. Your instruction manual should tell you how to get into your router's settings to check and how to make it secure if need be. You will also need to set up your laptop to give the password when it connects and the instructions should again be in the manual.

Cheers Magnus

Ever since I opened this thread, my laptop has been 'behaving'! :?

I have taken note of all the good advice - just in case!

My son did something to 'protect' the connection so I do not think that anyone is hacking in - or whatever the technical term is!

Thanks again :)
