The people from the "other place" didn't find it funny. I wonder why?

Count me in too.
I was about to reply on that thread earlier today, alas it had been locked. :(

RichardB has a very dry and dark sense of humour methinks :)

A Paphos lawyer who was sentenced to 30 days in prison for a series of traffic violations has received an official pardon from President Demetris Christofias.

As a 'law-abiding' resident, I have never been stopped by the Police
Should this happen in the future, I will know how to 'plead'

(Do you think this lawyer maybe in some way related to Chritofias then? )

Not that I am saying who the article was refering to, but I don't think Enilia Lemoiati is related to Christophias.

perhaps thats the problem? the English do laugh at themselves and take the mickey out of themselves and even comedians from abroad do it and they love it... i dont know if the Cypriots do that or would even like it....maybe one village laughing at another village perhaps?
god help them if they are like Americans - Only they are allowed to joke about themselves..
but i looked at that site and i thought i detected a couple of familiar names??????

1. i dont know if the Cypriots do that or would even like it....maybe one village laughing at another village perhaps?

There are a slew of jokes related to people from each village. Nicosians slagged off as mama's boys, folks from Limassol known as criminals, folks from Larnaca known as backwards villagers, folks from Paphos known as idiots.

2. god help them if they are like Americans - Only they are allowed to joke about themselves..

Watch yourself or they'll kidnap you and force-feed you a steady diet of hot dogs, deep-fried candy bars and 76 ounce steaks, and make you watch programming like "are you smarter than a 5th grader."

Its a f..ng disgrace , Christophias should be thoroughly ashamed of himself. I shall most definitely write to him expressing my utter disgust that such an affront to democratic principles has been perpetrated by none other than the President of the RoC. Why the f.c should this spoiled , utterly useless lawyer be pardoned for breaking the law on numerous occasions and getting away with it. The Cypriots have to seriously examine their ability to accept and abide by the laws of the land.
Bloody motor cyclists who do not give a shit about the law are allowed by the police to break the law with impunity.
Back to this bloody stuffy nose lawyer , he or she , should be made to abide by the laws, are we a lawless nation , is Mr Christophias also above the law, he had no right what so ever to overrule the judicial process . My respect for the man has diminished a great deal.
Bloody lawyers , why on earth should they be above the law , is it the fact that they all obtained their qualification in Greece !!!
So is back to who you know again , well not for long chums cause I'm coming after you soon

Hi miltiades

The same thing happens over here in the UK. Police (off duty) getting caught speeding and getting away with it. There was one case near me abit ago where a copper got flashed doing near 125mph on the M6, he got away with it. If you and I were to do it, good bye license and hello prison!

The law sucks

It wouldn't happen in the UK that the Prime Minister pardoned someone though Z4 and I think it is that which Milt really objects to.
How can there be any respect for the law when the top man brushes it aside for no good reason.

ps I was once caught doing 128 mph and pleaded guilty when it got to court and the magistrates found me innocent. There's a lot more to it but that is the basics. As for coppers letting each other off, I reckon that would happen anywhere but not always.
