Cypriots do complain about things here as anyone would know if they mixed in with them.

However they are fatalists and know that no matter how much they shout it won't make much difference. So they wait for things to change gradually.

A confusing situation s seen from an outsider's point of view- the British love to drink, but they do not teach their children how to drink. They love to drink but treat drinking like a sin, something to be done at certain hours, behind closed doors, by people of a certain age etc.

Well, treating drink in such a way makes it something to be abused, is that not obvious?

In the south of Europe children are taught how to drink, and generally how to live, from a very young age, not for the sake of propriety but for the sake of PLEASURE. But the Anglosaxon ethic still goes on asserting that nonsense of "no pain no gain" etc. Pleasure is verbotten, so you end up with lager louts and yobboes. This is not an exclusively English trait. Visit the campus of any US university on Friday evenings and weekends and you will see plenty of paralytic people there too. These guys are too macho to do wimpy things like take siestas or sip wine, no sir, these people are hard working, success chasing leaders of tomorrow puking on the grass and pissing in their shorts.

Well Johnson&Johnson is a racist towards the Brits.

My problem with alcohol is it sends me to sleep, which is embarrasing especially when at friends house!

The British are not a race ... they span Indians, Cypriots, Sri Lankans, Welsh, Jamaicans, Scots, English, Maltese ....

J&J is a racist....please go back and see some of his other posts. He seems to slate the Brits at every opportunity.

J&J is not a racist - he's a decent and intelligent guy pointing out some things that piss him off. There are obviously some fantastic British folks here. There are also some idiots. Thing is, it's the idiots that piss us off, not the good folks.

One thing I'd add to J&J's list of ire, though, is those Sunday hats that "proper" women wear on dressy occasions. Come on - gimme a freaking break here!

Guys, remember the arabs during the 80's ... you do not want to end up like that. Many of my countrymen are uneducated, sensitive, highly strung types who look for any excuse to go on the rampage against 'xenoi' - point in case being Ypsonas last month, when those local idiots went and bashed up any foreigner they came across.

I like hats, and I suit wearing them! Besides, they keep the sun at bay - you don't want me to burn now do you?

(I do, however agree with you if you are talking about the outrageous hats some ladies wear to Royal Ascot and the likes - some of them (the hats!) are just hideous! )
