What's Wrong With The British ?

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

This should be called "whats wrong with certain British". When I go to another country I like to mix with the locals and enjoy myself and so do most of the people that I know, unfortunatly we also have a culture that want Britain abroad, pie and chips and a pint of boddingtons.
If you look on forums like Tripavisor you can laugh at some of the questions like "where can I get a good full English breakfast in Paphos" and other gems like "is there a subway sandwich shop in Ayia Napa". Its a shame really.

We discussed the water fiasco with some Cypriot collegues two weeks ago at dinner. All good humoured, but as a Cypriot friend stated 'it is not our fault the Jews cannot fix a pipe' so maybe there is your answer.

ha ha as someone else said to me its a cypriot trait - always someone elses fault! more than five years of failing rainfall and its the poor bloody pipe fitters fault.......
And for once if someone had gone and knocked on Dekhelias door and said we have a problem can the royal engineers assist? the british would have been pleased to help, seeing it as a public relations excercise..

My friends, do not throw stones when you live in a greenhouse.

Water debacle ? Sure, gross mismanagement. But the English are also very capable of this sort of cock-up (terminal 5, last years floodings, millenium dome, etc etc - I'm sure I can think of lots more)

Community spirit ? Give me a break matey. Are you trying to tell me that you have this in the UK ? People murdering their own children through abuse and neglect while the neighbours turn a blind eye. Kids getting stabbed and killed in broad daylight. Pensioners dying alone and their corpses rotting in their council flats.

We step over homeless people in the street in the UK as if they were garbage. If we see a cat run over though we are beside ourselves with grief.

I came here to live in Cyprus, with all the assorted problems/ frustrations and inefficiencies that entails. Including bad driving, water mismanagement, cabaret culture, mullet hairstyles, idiots on motorbikes, etc etc. I did not come here to live in some breakfast fry-up and football shirt hell, and be insulted in my own country for the privelege, by the very people I was trying to get away from.

Aaaah.. catharsis is good !

not TELLING you anything J&J i just said i would like to see cypriots start threads on their own forum about the problems, real or percieved they experience in their own country amongst their own people. I never mentioned anybody telling you anything. I will willingly admit there are massive problems in the UK...i have never said there wasnt, so i am not throwing stones..and i am certainly not your matey.

roseandchan wrote:here in the trnc we don't get a lot of trouble from these sort of people. cheap package holidays and all inclusive holidays cause this. cheap holidays encourage the uneducated, beer drinking types, wearing football shirts. the all inclusive speaks for itself, drink as much as you can for a whole week! if you set up resorts to cater for these type of holiday makers then you will get all that comes with it. we spent a great holiday in andros. not a sighting of any chavy types. its not set up for beer drinking chav's. from what i have been reading turkey is the new spain for brits now, so they will all be going to antalaya next year.

Sorry, but I cannot see your point here! Please do not attach the 'lager lout' stigma to all football shirt wearers as this is just not true!
Anyway, have you seen the price of football strips; they do not come cheaply that is for sure!

A lot of locals wear UK strips so you are branding all with one iron! roll:

Well said Bubbles! :-) R&C you cannot tar everyone with the same brush! Just because one wears a football shirt does not make them a lager lout, chav or football hooligan!  ..... God forbid if anyone said that about a Cypriot there would be hell to pay!!
