Letters from the TRNC

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Nikitas » Mon Jul 28, 2008 4:07 pm

"All villages/towns have Turkish equivalent names."

But Galatya IS a Turkish name! I think that is what RW was confused about. And so am I. Mystified as to why the TCs feel a need to change names when no such need is felt in the south. I mean you can rename the Teke to Isihastirio, but it just does not make sense to do that.

On a practical note, I cannot follow Zan's account simply because the new names are not ringing any bells in my memory. And I know Karpasia very well. Something tells me that the older TCs still use the traditional names because they have the same problem.

@Sotos -

Like I said, "All villages/towns have Turkish equivalent names." It doesn't matter (to me) for what reason they were changed although I doubt the reason you give is the correct one

I have no idea why Galatya was changed, a lot of people still refer to it and its festival using its original name (Galatya Panayiri)

This web page seems a good one to help with the Turkish names of villages.....

http://www.cyprusive.com/?CID=25

Some of the names mentioned so far :

Bafra - Vokolida
Bogaz - Bogazi (just below Bogaztepe - Monarga)
Dipkarpas - Rizokarpaso
Sipahi - Ayia Triada
Yenierenkoy - Yalousa
Yesilkoy - Ayios Andronikos
Ziyamet - Leonarisso

What a load of drivel Zon !

Zon promised the members of the Forum some "thoughts and experiences" of the Occupied North and the Karpas and so far all we've got is a waste of space.

Zon hasn't even bothered to make some notes of the villages he is passing through to the extent Zon can't give us the names of these villages! Probably asking far too much to expect that he would have taken a list of the village names in the usual three languages ( readily available on the internet - I always have one in my suitcase ).

What got my goat - he seemed unaware that the Occupied Village of Rizokarpasso contains a large number of enclaved greek speakers and that to a large extent it's a mixed village (rather like Pyla - he probably doesn't know about that one either  ). What sort of self-respecting Cypriot doesn't know of the situation in Rizokarpasso?

Zon - take some advice - stop the car, get out of the car, go out of your way to talk to people, find out what they're thinking, how they're getting on etc etc. and then come back and tell forum members about it. Describe the state of the countryside while you're at it. "Thoughts and experiences" - so far, apart from exchanging glances with the priest at ApAn, meaningless self-important drivel.

Can't wait for the next thrilling chapter - what Zon had for breakfast, what he had for dinner, what the children had for tea, what colour the hire car is.... etc etc

Anyway, despite the personal insults hope Zan enjoys his holiday. :)

The other striking thing that we saw was the great big Turkish and TRNC flags flapping in the wind. I have to say that they looked fantastic and were used to their dramatic best. I could almost hear music while they danced. (I can see some of the children on this Forum squirming in their seats as I write about these flags but I promised to be honest).

Thats because your another fascist Turk Zan and get a boner when you see a Turkish flag.

Rebel, where are your manners ? No " have a nice holiday in the Occupied North" ? - Really!

Lena

My sister (Youngest) lives here most of the time now and has been doing so for two years or so. They have built the first phase of their building in which they rent flats to students.

Halil

Thank you for the offer but I see no point in meeting Miltiades. He has no idea of what it is that drives me and I have no desire to further explain to anything further to him. I would love to meet Bannaniot though because although he does not agree with me he at least understands and is willing to face the truth and realities of the situation. A true intellect.

74LB

Thanks for the information. I hope to cover most of the TRNC if I can and will get some sucuk for my sister if I get to go to Mehmetcik. I am staying just outside Girne.

p.s. All.......Why is billy boy |Bobbit suddenly posting more now that GR has supposedly disappeared??????

The double team with Oracle seems all too familiar to me   8)

Zan, we know this, yet still they deny any 'wrong-doings' Pathetic really, but it keeps us amused!

Hi Bubs

Great to know that I am not going mad and others can see the games these fools play

Out of interest, are you staying in the Famagusta area ?

what...? even the name Galatya was changed?

RW

If you are going to stick your head in the sand like others then I am disappointed in you. If you want the reality of Cyprus then keep reading this thread if not then don't bother. The street signs are what I see and the names my government have given these places, whether old or new is the reality. Live with it...God knows we have had to live with the reality of you guys holding our right to govern all these years.
