Letters from the TRNC

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Bubbles, there are a lot of dishes that are "Cypriot" (both N and S) like molohiya and kolokas, but of course some of the food here has a Turkish influence such as simit, a hot crispy bread ring with sesame seeds, they can be on their own, or filled with Hellim or sucuk (sausage). My other favourite is Pide - crispy flat bread oozing with cheese (a type of pizza) and lahmacun, a very thin crispy base with lamb and tomatoes - you squeeze on the lemon, sprinkle with parsley and roll it up, lovely - specially when it all drips down your chin!!!! (not that thats ever happened to me of course)

Cheers Tess, they sound divine and so 'calorie free'!

BTW, how do I say 'No parsley' in Turkish please?

I believe it would be "maydonoz yok" I am sure I will be corrected if necessary!!

PS we have been told to argue amongst ourselves so here goes:

Yes your bum does look big in that!!! Gone on Bubbles - your Turn!!!!!!

...alternatively you could say,"maydanozsuz" without parsley. What!!! Without parsley, are you kidding me? IN CYPRUS TOO?

I am not hearing this.!!

Bubbles mou,

Yes it was me that gave you the ersatz kleftiko recipe. It is dead simple. Preheat your oven to 200 C. Rub the well thawed New Zealand lamb (I am such a traitor but it does come out better than the milk fed Greek lambs) with salt, pepper and oregano (optional). Here come the tricky part- place a pan with water in the oven. Put a grill over the pan and place the lamb on the grill so it is about two inches distant from the water surface. Leave for 5 minutes and turn heat down to 150 C and forget it. Do not open the oven, do not baste, generally do not Ef with it. After three hours or when internal temperature is 165 (Farenheit this time cause that is what my meat thermometer reads), you have kleftiko.

I'm just wondering what ever happened to the letters from the "trnc", by Zan.!

They are not getting lost in Mersin, Turkey by any chance, or are they.??

I hope it does not mean that he has seen and done everything in the north, and now does not have anything else to say.!

He's not going to say "Been there, Done that" to us so soon, is he!

I want to know how the Hellim making experience went.!

I also wanted to read more on his "leading the witness" type of questions he asks the TC's in the north, regarding on their general feelings about the settlement talks.!

He probably is still in shock with the answers he got...That's why the thread has degenerated into simple food talk.

I think a lot of insensitiveness was shown to Zans posts. Some have decided to mock rather than appreciate his 'emotions'.

i agree deniz, i don't know how long zan has been away from the north but a friend of our has just come back here to live and is finding it very hard to take everything in. we have been here for 3 years now and have adapted pretty well but this seems to be harder for cypriots returning even though they have family here.
