If you are into Pasta and pizza then there is a place just off the roundabout to Girne that we discovered last night. Great food and price.

Hmmm! Hard food to digest, thanks anyway. I was hoping for more like 'When in Rome' etc so I want to try traditional Turkish food - washed down with oozes of Raki and Efes! (The latter I have tried and tested with great pleasure! :) :) )

Thats the problem...There is none that I could see. Plenty of Kebab types if thats what you mean. I am craving for some traditional TC food. Apart from bucket loads of fresh hellim and some fresh nor with sugar and karob juice on we have had none.

Well, I did fancy more than a kebab - lovely as they are! Sure someone out there may be able to help, if I ask them nicely!

Goodnight, enjoy the rest of your holiday :)

Cheers Bubbles. gnight.

Have you been to the Büyük Han in Nicosia, which has been restored over the past few years? There is a restaurant in there which does traditional Cypriot food. I wasn't aware that there existed a distinct TC cuisine. I thought all Cypriots shared the same traditional food.

I cannot find your original quote RWP, but the North side will do for now. I will take in your recommendation at a later date if need to!

Bubbles, there are a lot of dishes that are "Cypriot" (both N and S) like molohiya and kolokas, but of course some of the food here has a Turkish influence such as simit, a hot crispy bread ring with sesame seeds, they can be on their own, or filled with Hellim or sucuk (sausage). My other favourite is Pide - crispy flat bread oozing with cheese (a type of pizza) and lahmacun, a very thin crispy base with lamb and tomatoes - you squeeze on the lemon, sprinkle with parsley and roll it up, lovely - specially when it all drips down your chin!!!! (not that thats ever happened to me of course)

There is a small difference mate but you are generally right. One is that you will not find pork on the menu in traditional TC food. The other is some things like musaka is a whole different dish in the North. Maybe others can point to other differences.

Buyuk Han is somewhere I will definitely be visiting so thanks for the advise.

Zan you spend more time in the forum now than you did when you were in the UK. Your holidays must be really boring

there is 24 hours in a day Sotos and sitting sipping drinks by the pool and enjoying your company suits me just fine. I am not really one for lazing around and like to keep at least my brain active. Your comments make me believe I am doing the right thing.... 8) 8)

You could enjoy our company from the UK. If there was somehting interesting there you would be able to fill as many of those 24 hours as you physically could and still you wouldn't be able to do and see everything. That is how it is for me when I go to interesting places ;)

I have to pace myself Sotos. The first three days I did too much and made myself ill due to a condition I have. It is also good to fire off these things when on the island and thoughts are fresh. i have more time on my hands at the moment than I have at home due to work. I am actually waiting for my cousin to come and take me to places he said I would like to see. we might even eat at my aunts tonight. The fact is that We are having a Mss KKTC contest at the hotel Today and my 15 year old 6,2" sons eyes are on stalks and he says he is tired and just wants to be by the pool. He thinks I was born yesterday

Halil is really the man to recommend places for traditional food.
