Letters from the TRNC

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby repulsewarrior » Wed Jul 30, 2008 6:16 pm

...so have a good holiday, or choose politics, and if politics is your holiday, write.

zan, you have given worse than one swear word in hundreds of posts; shows how much i care about you.

Ghandi is dead, so too King, and one of my personal favorites, Lennon too.

LOL, You started it: because you assume too much, and you have judged. Galatia is not a Turkish word, but, I was proud of that, now I wonder (politically) why a Turkish town has a Greek name.

...have a nice day zan, stay warm, and keep it real.

Galatia is confusing me. I thought Galata although it sounds like it comes from the Greek word gala, it also has a Turkish meaning which is totally different, one of those linguistic coincidences. There is a Galatas in Istanbul, from which the football team also get their name. Are these places named after the Greek mythology figure Galatea? Can anyone shed some light on this?

I read a poll last year, entitled somrthing like 'who was the most mad/patriotic about their flag', To my utter surprise it was the Greeks.

Nikitas, dont get confused. I havent checked it out but both Galata in Istanbul and Galatya/ Galatea are non Turkish words. Definitely Greek.
Perhaps you are surprised that Turkey still retains some old Greek place names. (remember the famos Galata Watch Tower in the Christian sector (old) od Constantinopolis.

Galatya is not Turkish for sure. Galatia used to be a Roman province in central Anatolia , with the capital Ancyra ( now Ankara  ).

So Galatasaray FC has Greek roots? lol

Were the Turks even included in the poll?? Be honest and tell me what YOU think??? Even when you watch the news when something is happening in Turkey, there is always a giant Turkish flag somewhere.

Isnt Galatia a province around the Black Sea?? Possibly having Greek roots. I have heard stories that this could be the place where St George comes from - or even King Arthur.

RWA, I was surprised at this result. Turkey was included but they were around 5th or 6th place if I remember correctly. Do a search. I thought the Turks would be at No. !.

Zan

I see you are being advised on how to write.

Do not listen to them.

Listen to me.

Write from the heart, as you see it and as you feel it. 8)

Do not give in to the "see it from both sides brigade".

If everyone saw everything from both sides, it would be a boring world. Besides I believe only fools think they can truly see things from both sides.

We can only see things with our own eyes and make decisions based on our past experiences. This is why individuals are important. If we all wrote as biased self-centred individuals, we know those assessments would be true for that individual.

A more accurate picture would then be gained by comparing the views of many individuals. ... and not erroneously expecting one individual to write for the masses.

Zan .. feel free. Exercise your right to Freedom of Speech and write as you see and as you feel. 8)

We can extrapolate :)
