Letters from the TRNC

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Kikapu » Wed Jul 30, 2008 11:11 am

Zan,

I agree with Deniz. Why don't you enjoy your holiday with your family and give us a full report when you get back to the UK where you will have time to write and answer peoples question, rather than all this "hit & miss" reporting by trying to juggle both.

You say that the TC's are becoming more political, so talk to them politics. It is important for you and for us to understand what the general mood of the TC's and the settlers are in the north, so talk to them about politics just by asking them what their feelings and ideas are of the present and future of the north or Cyprus in general when peace is reached. Once you get their answers, then ask them if they have bought any stolen GC properties or are occupying any GC properties right now and whether they have any property in the south. This will give you a clearer understanding how their political views were based on. Also try and imagine what the north would look like if there were many more GC's were living there once peace is reached, rather than the hand full you have seen as "guests of the host country" as you put it I believe. Talk to these people also and see what they have to say rather than ignoring them. They are after all not foreigners to Cyprus, even if you see them as such.

I have a feeling that you will be going to the south for a visit very soon. After being in the north for few days, you sound like you have seen and done everything and are now prepared to get up at 7 am to go watch how Hellim is made. This may explain why you have not seen too many tourist around as you told us with your opening post. You managed to get to the north without much hassle, and if tourist in general wanted to go to the north, they too can get there , and yet, they are not, and please, do not tell us it is because there are no direct flights from the EU countries. So Zan, tell us why the tourist in general are staying away from the north.?

Stop your foolishness of not going to the south. If any consolation, even VP goes to the south. I can assure you, if you are polite to the GC's, they will be polite to you back. Rent a car for few days in the south and drive around to see rest of your country, and I can assure you, that all your legal rights will be observed and provided to you, or else, I may have to start saying that you are only giving us a "one sided story".!

Safe trip on your remainder of yours and family's holidays Zan.!

Hello Zan, hope you are having fun…It took me a while to read everything from the beginning since everybody start posting about several things and I got lost :) I guess we all expected that.

Anyway, I wanted to write few things that came in my mind while I was reading your posts.

From what I read in the past about you in your posts you said that you left Cyprus as a kid and you never came back since then … the emotional stress and all the memories kept you away if I recall correctly. I saw somewhere though that you came one more time 6 years ago. Is that true or not?

By the way, you have to be careful with what you write about religious things. You were going to be insulted if I said anything about your God or holy places. You said that you will post your story but you will try to write it without being a liar or just say things that suit you. What I noticed is that its not exactly this way but its more emotional writing. You write your thoughts and feelings not a truthful description of what you see. You mention about the flags …you said you saw couple of them and you felt so good that you almost heard music etc etc…well I went to Apostolos Andreas more than once and through the way I have seen more than 10 flags. I guess that made you feel good but the truthful way of your writing include lies too?
Talking about those men who you saw in Apostolos Andreas might been GC or not, but you said that they were “visibly Greek”, why it was visibly? It said that on their forehead? You did not say that you heard them talking, right? You assumed that they went their just to judge the Turks…well did you really asked them? Or it was one of your “truthful” assumptions? Zan GC who visit the Monastery they feel sorry of the disaster they viewed, they will even say bad things for the Turks who destroyed that holy place. For us that Monastery means a lot. People from all over Cyprus used to go there before 1974 with just bread and a bottle of water just to be there for an hour, pray and worship, and then go home. They do the same thing nowadays…even from Paphos…they want to go there and pray…it’s a long way but it’s a holy place for us. Through your words I noticed that you feel sorry for the GC’s you see or the GC places you notice through your way to places. I felt that while I was reading about the GC places and coffee shops, while you described the priest and generally the houses you saw that are not in a good condition. Why you feel pity for us Zan? Is it because of what the Turks have done to us? Is it because the enclaves that live in the north used to live with fear and threats?

I do enjoy your writing…I just wanted to write my thoughts and make it clear that you can not write an honest and truthful experience. Its more like a letter as you said. That you write in it your thoughts, your feelings and your daily plans.

I hope you will enjoy your today’s trip as much as you enjoyed the previous days. Hopefully you will get fed better today

Although I found it very interesting to read Kikapu's travel diary to the south I'm almost willing to agree with you Viewpoint.

But... He is after all a TC who visited the south. Calling him a hypocrite is a bit heavy don't you think? Sure he can't compare his experiences in the south with the north as he's never been there. But his story is not as one sided as you'd like to think. He saw the south through TC eyes with his unionist shades on. And he told us about it. Zan is seeing the north with TC eyes wearing his partitionist goggles. That's even more one sided if you ask me.

It would be interesting to read stories from GC's going north observing life and changes made over the years as well as communicating and associating with TC's. And it would be interesting to read stories from TC's doing the very same in the south.

Travel stories from a pro-partition expat TC visiting his beloved 'TRNC' giving us only the Turkish view on things is one sided. This you can't deny!

Nevertheless, I think everyone should give Zan a break. Let him enjoy his vacation with his family, he's no different than us you know... he wants to have a good time with his beloved just like anyone else. Let him tell us his observations and experiences when he return home. The less time he spends behind his computer the more he can talk to people and the more he can find out about Greek names on villages and whatnot.

Just let him tell us his story and then we can ask questions and applaud him or boo him depending on what we think of his answers. ;)

The only difference is, Zan as a TC can enjoy the south without having to face any forced military service or arrested until ransom of £3,000 was paid to the "trnc" as the case could have been with me last year. So, if you are going to make comments on hypocrisy, then at the very least, tell the truth, which you have a hard time doing so by being a NeoPartitionist.!

By the way VP. I have been to the north of Cyprus many times in my life before leaving Cyprus in '64, just not under the illegal "state" of the "trnc", but just Cyprus, and I will do so again, when the time is right..

Thousands and thousands enter and leave the north without any problems, you are just making excuses to support your warped one sided GC views.

Yes, Kikapu, I do really want Zan to enjoy himself and his holiday. I kow he enjoys writing about his true life experiences, but some take enjoyment in villifying anything any TC does. They need to get a life. The views Zan puts forward are as important as yours or mine or Oracles. Lets not ruin a well meaning thread. (not refering to you Kiks).

Totally agree with you Deniz. That's the reason why I had a 3 weeks "Blackout" on the forum before leaving and returning from Cyprus.

Besides, I would have had hell to pay from my girlfriend if I was doing "Good Morning from Cyprus" everyday.!
