It is quite interesting that if a similar Poll was done asking Turkish Cypriots the equivalent, almost all, if not all, would say that they are Turkish. I also believe that almost all Greek Cypriots would have said they are Greek pre-1974. Therefore, it seems clear that only after the 1974 invasion, and the inaction by Greece, that there has been a growth in this "neo-Cypriot" ideology. Consequently, it is quite clearly bitterness and resentment that has spawned this sentiment.
Michalis, Cyprus has been a Greek dominated (at the very least culturally) island since 1200 BC. The Greek Cypriots today are not trying to create Hellenism on this island which did not previously exist, but preserve it. You on the other hand, are craftily trying to deny that Cyprus is or was ever Greek, thus in effect trying to alter history! It is clear to any person who has even the most basic skills of perception, that the will of the GCs back in the 1950s was enosis; independence was not an option because no GCs were interested in it! Indeed, when we were given independence, the prevailing view (including that of Makarios) was that it was a stepping stone to enosis. It was considered by us as a compromise! So please do not try to alter history to suit your own arguments. Your idea of "Cypriotism" is a new one that was only adopted by most post-1974.
