Well you endorse my argument GG. Many people are refused help every day of every week of every year because there is no money to pay for it. Far rather would I prefer my money be spent on someone's hip replacement than a drug abusers rehab programme. You tell the story of one heroine user. There are many thousands who are lost causes and I don't want my money spent on them I'm afraid.
If the drug abuser were being sent to an inhospitable island with the bare basics of life to survive on for a short sharp de-tox then yes, please send them. Otherwise money is much better spent elsewhere.

I think it would be very difficult for me to have Government provided healthcare costing anywhere near as much as I have paid in taxes for booze and fags (the English ones).

it only takes one bottle of wine or a six pack to rack up costs of over a million dollars and many times more. think of the kids who die in car accidents after coming home from some party. they aren't even legally old enough to drink. a car load of kids, the driver drunk...hits another car....multiple deaths, others hospitalized for months perhaps.... cost: millions. it could happen. i am sure it has, on many occassions.
who pays for that? the few bucks they paid in taxes on that beer or wine?

i don't think my parents would have been too happy if i had been shipped off to a place like that. and let me tell you, drug abuser or not, i KNOW i made this world a better place because i was here.

You make a good point, I don't know how I would react.
I know one thing though, the sooner the world stops pandering and giving airtime to our so called defenceless celebs, the sooner kids will realise DRUGS and excess ALCOHOL are for losers !!!

Well I have been a victim many times of thieving and threatening druggies and I'd far rather help someone who made the world a better place by being decent all their lives.
Equally I hope you never have a child stabbed to death by a crazed drug addict looking for a fix.

As I said if there were unlimited supplies of money we could all have plastic surgery, IVF and fund drug/alcohol programmes to our hearts content but in the meantime I'd rather money be spent on people who didn't choose to ruin their own, and others' lives in the first place.
