GYPSOS VILLAGE MEETING

Postby Bananiot » Sat Jul 26, 2008 11:26 am

Friday night, 25 July, saw a large gathering of Gypsos people at Kofinou. They came from all over Cyprus to remember the famous football team of the village called “Lava”. Members of the 1956 team were honoured for their services to the team. I have chosen some photos from the gathering of some interesting people that I hadn’t seen for may be 40 or so years.

Gregoris Giasemi (black shirt), whose father was murdered by EOKA fanatics in 1958, seen next to MP Andreas Mouskallis.

We used to call this guy Charos (ferryman) when we were kids. I found out that he is called Charos still!

Kelontas! I am not afraid to say I am a communist, he told me.

Thanks for ther invite.

Not that I would have come, but I am sure my father-in-law would have liked to have met up with his past friends, neighbours, relatives maybe.

I will show him the photos and see if he identifies any one.

When is the next one?

Bananiot,

Above all else, thank you for that. I saw a photo of my father-in-law and people that I have met.

I seem to remember that you told me once that your father was the Rafti tou xorkou.

Those people in the missing persons list all seem to be from the Rafti family. Are they members of your Family?? Sorry to ask

Thanks again.

Yes they are, but they are not missing. They are dead. I started this page now, hopefully I'll finish it by next week:

Bananiot, sorry to hear that.

I guess that would explain why you feel the way you do.

Thanks again.
