Pasatempo ...... To Swallow or not to Swallow?

Postby Oracle » Thu Jul 24, 2008 8:37 pm

I love Pasatempo (salted dry roasted pumpkin seeds) ... :D

But lately I have become so lazy to do the nifty crack between the teeth and eat the nut inside, that I just chew and swallow the whole lot ... seed pod and all ....

Is this the height of bad manners or do others cheat this way? :?

I do chew really well, so it is good exercise for the jaw muscles :D .... and then by swallowing, one gets the benefit of all that fibre ...

A wholesome nutritious snack ... no less! 8)

I just wondered if it was considered rude ..... although spitting out the damp shells looks worse to me ... :?

The nifty trick between the teeth for me. Eat the kernel and then follow up straight away with the empty husk.

..and on the subject of nutshell disposal...

Singapore is one of the most disciplined countries in the world: chewing gum is illegal, failing to flush a toilet gets you a fine (not sure how they enforce that!) and no-one drops ANYTHING on the pavement.
But go into the Long Bar at the wonderful Raffles Hotel; having eaten the peanuts which are provided FOC on the tables, it is de rigeur to throw the shells all over the floor - which makes going to the bar to get your Singapore Sling a tricky operation!

Now you mention it, the British High Commissioner was my guest for Dinner and the Manager of Raffles came over to our table to introduce himself. We had arrived in the Official Car, with all flags flying....the doorman jumped to attention :-)

Now you wish you had not mentioned it....

Men having long hair is also illegal , they even have barbers at the airport to cut tourist's hair upon entry. A very odd place.
