What has Britain contributed to Cyprus??????

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Britain would have no option but to accept a request by the RoC to abandon the base areas accorded to her under the 1959 Zurich agreement. I do not think that it would serve Cyprus's economy to request the withdrawal of the British bases , unless of course it was proven that their continuance represents a security threat to the RoC.
I have always supported the continuation of the bases in Cyprus but not if the British are engaged in activities that are detrimental to the interests of the island.

The Sovereign Base Areas have never belonged to the Republic of Cyprus, which is why they are best off staying in British hands.

Both Cyprus & Great Britain need to work out a partnership agreement which is beneficial for both countries.Telling the British to abandon the S.B.A.s is NOT the answer! Expelling the Turks back to Ankara IS the answer!

Raymanoff,
Is the international airport located at Larnaca or at Paphos? The 'airport' in the Sovereign Base Areas is actually a Royal Air Force military airbase called R.A.F. Akrotiri.

I don't think there is an international airport in Nicosia, unless it is located up in northern Nicosia, which only has flights coming in from Turkey.

Both Larnaca and Pafos are international. I think Raymanoff is hinting that RAF Akrotiri would become another public international airport if it were handed to the RoC. I think this is a bit ambitious, it's more likely to just become another place to kill the local wildlife and dump disused white goods.

BC Numismatics, don't lecture me... RAF Akrotiri is a place where reconnaissance, attack, transport aircraft are based, maintained, pilots trained, and used in conflicts where Cyprus really didn't want to be involved or even being mentioned in a first place...

murf62, That base is a public health hazard comparing to your Garbage/Wildlife claims.

Akrotiri is one of the most beautiful places Cyprus OFFLIMITS to its citizens...

Raymanoff,
I'm not the one doing the lecturing.I have actually visited an airbase over here in New Zealand. It was R.N.Z.A.F. Ohakea, which is just out of Sanson.I used to go there on school trips, plus I attended an airshow there back in 1987.

As for the S.B.A.s,they DO have a civilian population - the families of the military personnel, plus the Cypriots who have jobs (& British citizenship, due to their connections with the S.B.A.s.) in the local areas.

Gosh so that is what is kept and happens at military air bases. Thanks for imparting such exciting information.

If Akrotiri is beautiful the remainder of Cyprus must be mega UGLY.
