What ? They don't even have a right to a school in their own language!!!
Shouldn't they have Political Equality ? A generous percentage of government posts ? And the power of Veto ? And a guarantor to protect those rights ?
When has a Turkish dominated society [b]EVER shared political power with a numerical minority, let alone consider them "Politically Equal" ?
Why dont you do a search of Kurdish members of parliament in Turkey, before making such statements.
I believe Kurdish parties are banned and the few Kurds that are elected do so as independent candidates or by participating in Turkish parties.
What is certain is that it is not given to the Kurds the 20% (let alone the 50%) of the power share.
In Turkey the Kurds (and all other minorities) are not even given their human and minority rights.
Ok, ok. I will forget that Ecevit was of Kurdish stock.
You are confusing things dear deniz. One thing is to give to a minority their own separate power share, and a different thing somebody from that minority to be elected in the goverment by the citizens as a whole.
Similarly in Cyprus the president of the 3rd biggest party, and maybe a future president of Cyprus, is an Armenian. But he was elected with the votes of Cypriots as a whole.
Of course people from a minority have the right to be Presidents or Prime Ministers of a country. But in order for anybody to get that position they have to be democratically elected by the majority of the population.
So Ecevit (or anybody else for that matter) was chosen by the Turkish citizens as a whole. He was not elected because the Kurds alone had the power to elect him in that position, because the Kurds do not have a separate power share.
Look, Piratis. Throughout Turkish history, whether its republican, Ottoman or any other Turkic State, if you salute the flag, their is no end of power. For years and years the Greeks have fed all minorities in Turkey to commit treason against the state. Without all that incitement they could have got everything they could ever wish for. Had the PKK or their political brothers resisted the temptation of separatism, they would have fared better. But the Greeks who could not defeat Turkey by military means would try to achieve this by undermining everything that Turkey holds dear.
You can guess whats coming now Deniz...can't you?
Yep. I hate debates with experienced old grammaphones. I will still read it. It breaks the otherwise boring games. .
I see things in black and white. I am a simple guy. If you dont like the fine , dont commit the crime. (more flack here).
I blame the French Revolution and the Russians and Vryonis for all this. (Vryonis = Lord Byron to the uninitiated).
