Bi-lingual

A person that speaks two languages is bi-lingual and a person that speaks three languages is tri-lingual, but what do you call someone that only speaks one language?

........An American!

Dear Novus,

Only someone from south of the Mason-Dixon Line would post a stupid joke like this.

Welcome to the forum. :)

Sincerely,
One of the 9% of bilingual Americans

It's okay, Novus. We have our own style of gun-mongering, monolingual rednecks up here too. :D

So if 9% speak more than one language and 81% speak only one language, are the other 10% unable to speak or does the inadequacy of American brains stretch to mathematics as well?

Depending on the study, about 81% of Americans speak only English fluently.
This link says 80% http://www.ppionline.org/ppi_ci.cfm?knl ... tID=254619

CBBB, I think the issue here is much less about the inadequacy of the American brain to stretch to mathematics than it is about a certain brain's inability to infer that the other 10% are not fluent in English.

Filitsa,
