i have an iphone 3g, i just put my sim inside(128K cyta sim) with a sim adaptor purchased from www.any-network.com
modified the cellular network settings according to http://modmyi.com/wiki/index.php/Carrier_APN_Settings (which i added) and everything works ok including gps. the only prob is that iphone gps uses google maps and cyprus is not mapped yet. btw the phone is simlocked to o2 uk but with the adapter is pretty much unlocked including all its functions

I'm getting my iPhone 3G today. :D

I used the first iPhone for a while but I stupidly chose to listen to everyone else and wait for the Nokia N96 instead of getting the 3G version of the iPhone.

Waited all this time for it and finally got the N96 last week. And let me tell you, it's a DISASTER of a phone.

The firmware has so many bugs, the Wlan doesn't work, the youtube application is garbage. It buffers every few seconds and the quality of the videos leaves a lot to be desired. Everything about the phone is crap imo. It's not much different from the N95 really...that was quite a good phone but you'd expect something BETTER from the newer version. It has a TV receiver on it but theres no one providing that service in the UK so thats pretty useless. Plus what makes everything so much worse is how laggy the phone is.

I prefer the iPhone with it's shortcomings anyday...at least it runs smoothly and it's much more reliable than any other phone I've ever used.

hope its to your liking the iphone 3g... your gonnatake the nokia back and buy the 3g?... ive got the 1st gen iphone but witht he firmware for 3g and my one they released 2.0 to quickly and it has bugs so they released 2.0.1 a week later then 2.0.2 then 2.1 and soon 2.2 all these firmware within 6 weeks was released but 2.1 is pretty stable atm but they still rushed so many releases when they could of taken longer and released 2.0 with no bugs instead of the many it had...

ive got 2.1 firmware which is stable though and 2.2 when its released, for mac users who get the unlock and jailbreak before windows users but i imagine like kypraia you will have it unlocked and ready to upgrade anytime, just you will need region patch if its not official in cyprus yet or do you live in the uk?

Thanks for all that pali, yeah I live in the UK so I don't need to unlock it.

I also had the 1st gen iPhone and I know what you mean about the bugs, but the N96 is nothing like I've ever experienced before. Forget the firmware, it seems that it was the phone itself that was rushed. Thats not suprising since theres a lot of new phones coming out that are going to leave it in the dark. Nokia probably thought we either release it as it is or we lose out altogether. Sonys Experia X1 is coming out this week, and once it does I doubt anyone will look twice at the N96. I thought about waiting for that but from all the reviews I've read, people are also talking about it lagging constantly...you can even see it for yourself in the demos on youtube. Plus it runs on WINDOWS, so no thank you!

The iPhone is the best choice without a doubt, for me anyways. I think they're more reliable than the other phones I've used. I regretted getting rid of the 1st one I had, and I should of stuck to my instincts and not listened to the iPhone haters! It may not be great but I'd rather have a shitty camera on a phone than a shitty phone on a camera....

Anyways I've just got home from work with it. Can't wait to get it fired up!!!! Image

thats kewl for me i have to unlock because i got my 1st gen ages ago and wn i upgrade it locks up i think you might of had o do the same unless you have it legit on contract from 02...

soi use a program like winpwn or pwnage to unlock the new firmware.

the nokia n96 i thought would be very good

i still hate a few things about the iphone like not being able to send recive files via the bluetooth and a flash on the camera come night you cant take pics and to take video you have to jailbreak...

other then that i love it for the mac ... i think my next phone though is going to be one that has everything i use as much as i love the iphone i really want those things espesially flash for camera

Ok everythings gone well apart from the fact that o2 STILL haven't activated my phone!

It's supposed to happen as soon as you plug it into iTunes but it's yet to activate, really getting on my nerves and o2 just keep telling me to "wait a couple of hours".

Plus vodafone still have not come to collect the N96 despite me calling them for the 3rd time now. They keep telling me they're going to come, make me sit at home but they never show up.

I noticed you rated the HTC touch diamond as crap, from what I have read Gadget mag etc, it seems to come out better overall than the iphone.

I wasn't knocking HTC, I was knocking that particular model. Anyways the HTC diamond was (if I'm not mistaken) the FOURTH phone HTC brought out to try and compete with the iphone ...and it failed just like the others.

If you did your homework you'd find the diamond has some serious issues, and like I already said, the HTC Touch-Pro (the newer one) is much better.
