millions of units have been sold mainly in the united stated.. if you check www.apple.com you can see more information

but the iphone lacks many things like a flash on the camera and working bluetooth, you know you cannot use the bluetooth to send or recieve files with the iphone?
plus there is no unlock for the 3g yet

If you want one just buy it online from america or a country that has it i got mine from England not cyprus

Or wait for it to be available in germanos

If you plan to buy a Iphone and pay monthly to keep it unlocked then great if not you can use programs such as iliberty or winpwn or ziphone but unlocking your iphone.

your not supposed to do it. but apple are stupid locking their phones in the first place they want you to pay X amount a month depending on the carrier in the country like for England it is O2 and for greece Vodafone i dont think its been officially released with so easy or mtn which sucks.

You will see what i mean when you buy one if this is your first iphone...

there is an unlock...iv seen it available at iPelagos and Technica...they have both been unlocked and will work for our sim cards...(at a price of 800 euro for the 8GB only!!)

what i want to know is what features can we use in cyprus for the iPhone 3G?
ie. can we even use '3G'?
what is 'EDGE'?...
and what about GPS will that work?..:S

Hi guys and girls, it's been a while since I posted on here but now nearly 2 years living here it's great :D ...

...except I REALLY want a 16Gb iPhone.

I don't really want to buy an unlocked one as I want to be able to keep up with future updates and the prices being advertised are frankly ridiculous profiteering!

So I suppose the question is does anyone know if/when the 3G version will be OFFICIALLY available here? Not when people think or a rumour they may have heard but ACTUAL RELEASE?

Many thanks 8)

No idea mate.
Has nobody else tried bringing them in and adding some competition to the market, I am sure the present suppliers in Cyprus are not sanctioned as sole traders with Apple.

Hey, i was wondering the same thing
well the thing is, i don't think it will be OFFICIALY released in cyprus, like it would be in the USA or Greece. :S

it will however be available in September in Acapella, Germanos etc..(iv asked)
does this mean they will be unlocked? we don't know.. what do you think Supertrotter...

Thanks for the reply Kyprea#1.

I tend to agree that it won't be OFFICIALLY released as we tend to miss things like this being 'Little old Cyprus' :-(

I did speak to a guy in Marangos in Paphos and he said mid - end Aug but was a bit cagey on the whole OFFICIAL bit so I suspect they will be unlocked.

My only worry is as I said in my post that updating the software in the phone will cause it to lock again and I have heard reports that it will/may cause it to lock permanently (Or until a NEW unlock comes out for that particular problem - if yiou see what I mean...)

I wonder what we would be told at the time of buying it and if not warned, what would our rights/comeback be?

Also, I heard that French sourced phones HAVE to be sold by law in both locked AND unlocked form due to French law.

That could be another possibility?

Supertrotter,
yea i know exactly what you mean, but i dont think it will lock if you update the softwear.
what i know is, if you jailbreak it, then you actualy cant update it, coz that will cause you to lose everything thats on it.

btw, i discoverd today that the price will be around 600 euro. (an insider from accapella told me) i think if baught from a retailer then fingers crossed we will be able to update with no problems. :)

BTW!!...a quick Q. will the Apps work in Cyprus? for example:
-Movie App: does that work only in countries that have a registerd iPhone
-Midomi: will that work through a wifi connection? (seeing as we don't have 3G available in Cyp)

..
