Miltiades, we are not going to deny our heritage to reunite Cyprus. That would be cowardly. It is not being Greek that has divided the island, it is nationalists that took this sentiment too far. Too much of anything is no good for you. Greek Cypriots have every right to carry the Greek flag alongside the Cypriot one. You nor anybody else will stop this.

Miltiades scream and shout all you want against the Greeks.

You have just come from a rally, and I was not there, but you are complaining about the presence of the Greek flags.

Well Miltiades I will tell you why they are there. For many other reasons, but also because my mother who is Greek, is one of those that lays an Official wreath at the memorial. Since she is Greek, it is right there be a Greek flag there.

Was there an official from the Turkish community laying a memorial wreath?

No ... because they do not care about the plight of Cyprus.

Like it or not Militiades, Greece cares about Cyprus and we are not about to lose one of our greatest allies and EU sisters, because you have some twisted outdated vision.

So let us tell the world then that Cyprus is Greek , that we want the Turkish troops out as well as all the Turkish Cypriots , let us redesign our IDs and modify the Nationality from Cypriot to Greek.
Your mother is Greek you say , fine , you are a Greek Cypriot.
You are missing a fundamental issue here which is this. Are we really committed to one Cyprus with one people or are we going to agree with Turkey's position that there are TWO nations and TWO people on the island of Cyprus.
Do you agree that Cyprus is the home of all Cypriots and if affirmative do you also see the need for a common denominator that is neither Greek in essence or Turkish ?
For your information O , I'm certain you are aware of this , Great Britain offered Cyprus to Greece in 1921 and Greece flatly rejected the offer .
You are also aware that in 1963 when Turkey was bombing Paphos the then Greek government remained inactive just as they did in 1974 .
Greece ain't my country , Cyprus is .

Of course that is the impression you want to leave Zan. The truth is quite different. But still, when have you ever let the small matter of the truth get in the way.

Miltiades ... Greece is a fellow EU member partner, like Britain.

Why do you give Britain more credence in Cyprus affairs than you do Greece?

Britain offered Cyprus to Greece in 1921? Can you provide a link for this?

There are not only two peoples in Cyprus Miltiades, there are more than two peoples, nobody has ever denied this. In fact it says as much in our Constitution. The problem lies with the two nations. This we do not accept.

The people that carry the Greek flags don't carry them because they want Enosis. They carry them because we are ethnically Greek and some of us aren't going to forget that. Much as some people would love us to become some watered-down generic 'Cypriot' that's not going to happen.

The Turks aren't going to stop having their affiliation to Turkey, so why the hell should we turn our backs on Hellenism?

You're living in a dream world if you think we are going to give up our heritage. Fair enough you don't want the same national anthem but what next? Should we drop the Greek language and only use English? Maybe drop our religion too? How about we wipe Cyprus clean of all 'Greek' references? It's bad enough the Turks are doing that to our lands in the North without us doing it in the Republic or elsewhere.

I've been persecuted for having a Greek name, my religion and my 'foreign' culture by Brits and still not turned my back on it and become 'English'. I'll be damned if I'm going to give it up now because you or anyone else wants me to.

That happened in 1914. Greece (prime-minister Zaimis) refused because in return Greece would have to participate in WW1. I doubt the Brits would have kept their promise having in mind WW2 (Same offer to GCs).
