What are TCs willing to give, in return for direct trade?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Piratis » Fri May 06, 2005 8:04 pm

Well, there is only one Cyprus citizenship, and therefore we are all just Cypriots by that (there is nowhere written that I am Greek or Christian on my ID).

However TCs/GCs is just a way to categorize people based on religion and language, just like you can say right/center/left to categorize people based on their political beliefs, or women/men to categorize people based on gender.

Of course, all people TC/GC, right/center/left, men/women etc should be equal Cyprus citizens and no discriminations should exist.

Categorize people based on religion?
Who has the right to classify people based on religion? Who knows and who has the right to know what religion each Cypriot follows?

Who has the right to classify people based on religion?

please note:

and language

Nobody categorizes anybody. We categorize ourselves. We can categorize ourselves any way we like. Today even a man can say he is a woman, nobody can prohibit this.

The important thing is that no matter what category we decide we belong, we should all be equal citizens.

Yes I agree that you can categorise people based on mother language, but ..religion?
How does anyone know (or have the right to know) what religion each Cypriot follows? What I am saying is that religion cannot be a basis to categorise people. I know people who change religion every month. More often than they change address or employer.

There are no such terms like GC and TC. There are only greek speaking (gs) Cypriots and turkish speaking (ts) Cypriots.

Hey, take it easy ... :)

Alex when you say "ports" do you mean seaports or airports? In case you mean seaports here are my answers:3,2,1,1,3.
If there was another option for us getting both K1 and K2 I would give that a 4 point.

I am a citizen of Republic of Cyprus. Anything beyond that doesn't really matter.

Why is the term Greek Cypriot a bad one? I mean in the USA they have Greek Americans or Italian Americans etc, and most of them don't even speak Greek or Italian.

I don't think there is a reason to become exactly the same. As long as the state treats all its citizens in the same way, any differences between us are something more positive than negative (if we realize that we can get along without conflicts)

Do you know any country with the name Greekcypriotland? Do you know any country with the name Turkishcypriotland? I know none such countries. In the list of UN member countries, I do not see such a country. The only country I see is Cyprus. I look on the map of Europe and Middle East and I see Turkey, I see Lebanon, I see Israel, I see Egypt, I see Greece and I see an island with the name Cyprus. Where is this Greekcypriotland? Where is this Turkishcypriotland? They do not exist!

What nationality is this "Greek Cypriot"? From which country it comes from? Is it someone whose one parent is from Greece and the other parent from Cyprus, but he was born in the middle of the sea and as such he has no nationality himself?

Well, I am not entirely sure ... I am certainly not "Greek", I would say I am something between a "Greek Cypriot" and a "greek speaking Cypriot", to use your terminology.

I feel I have strong roots in greek culture and history, from ancient times till today, so I would hesitate to let all that go and say that I am just "greek speaking" - it's more than just language for me.

Then again, the sense of being a "Cypriot" is also very important to me, it has to do with what we are today in our social reality rather than with where we came from ...
