Hello Novus welcome to the forum.

here is the long and short of gun laws in cyprus.

1. No rifles or small bore guns are permitted.
2. Only shotguns, non auto and Pump upto 3 shots (i think) are permitted.
3. Air rifles only .177 calibre allowed. .22 not permitted
4. Attitudes to guns, best place you could hope for, except for the ex-pats who always moan about them
5. Shooting live quarry only in seasons
6. Clay target shooting about 4 clubs island wide.
7. We have champions clay shooters here and as the kids start from a young age, many good shots at 12 y.o and up.

Anything else you need just ask.

Good luck

I see. If you ask at one of the shooting clubs I am sure they will tell you exactly what is allowed and what is not.

Wow, that is like a culture shock to me. No semi auto and a three round limit is bad enough, but no rifle is just plain alien.

What about slugs for the shotguns?
How about cap and ball (usually called muzzle loaders) handguns and rifles?

12 years old is a good age to start, but so is younger (depending on the child). We had an eight year old girl bag a bear with a .243 Winchester round just three years ago and in some places there is no minimum age for getting a firearms hunting license.

I did ask one club (I think it was one of the ones near Nicosia...or was it Limassol?) about bringing in a shotgun, but it seemed there is just enough of a language barrier to make me worry I misunderstood.

By the way, what is the shortest barrel allowed on a shotgun and what do they do if a someone visiting brings a semi auto for a temporary visit? (semi auto shotgun are legal in the Olympics as I understand it)

No slugs, we have no bears
No muzzle loaders, sorry
no handguns nor rifles.

I said about 12, but they could also be younger, as long as they can carry the gun, they will use it.

If I am not mistaken here, and I stand to be corrected, The guns laws were written into our constitution by the british in 1960. I think the had a fear of us taking up arms against them, but I stand to be corrected.

We don't want or need handguns, this is the island of love, the only weapon you need is between your legs

Good luck

P.S. I wonder if this could be a spy from CL

Spy? Google Novus Collectus and see what pops up.

Yeah, I can see the Brits doing something like that with the Constitution. They are known for not trusting their former possessions being armed......just look at what we Americans did to them.

Handguns do not have to be for anything bad. Over here we collect them, hunt with them, and participate in a number of sports with them. Some guns are for self defense or home defense, but many are not.

Is it possible the gun laws may change some day in Cyprus? If I ever moved there I would hate to give up my collecting and part of my recreation.

Shortest barrel length is 24 inches (ha ha i wished)
If you brought over a semi, then you risk losing it at the airport. hard to say , but they are not allowed. The fact that they are allowed at olympics bears no relationship.

Gun laws changing, I very much doubt it.

Sorry, but thats the situation so far.

24"?!!? That sucks. Even the most stringent local law in the US didn't ban over 20" for shotguns.

Doesn't matter too much to me at the moment though because my Remington 870 has I think a 26" barrel, however it has a five round magazine tube. Do you think I could get away with a temporary magazine plug limiting it to three rounds only?
