Desecration of churches and cemetaries

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Oracle: yet this was destroyed forever, so much for future generations, not just for GCs, but riches for many scholars of every nation, and also ordinary people who appreciate our past, be it religious or other.

Raymanoff: wankers... find your excuse now, even taking aside religion - it was an ancient building which should be protected.

Absolutely right! I cannot believe that this is still going on. A church hundreds of years old can't surely be in such a state of decay within 30 odd yrs that it needs to be destroyed ? And BUILDING over a cemetary? It beggars belief. Who will be buying these houses?

The same people who own houses in Lapithos, which has FOUR Christian churches but never ask themselves why these churches never function, and never ponder about the people who built them. In short, the buyers are the same people who would buy TV sets off the back of a lorry back home.

As for the destruction itself, there is only one way it will stop. When the TCs realise that there is money to be made in keeping them, ie becasue foreign tourists who are on a religious kick are likely to come visiting these churches. This happened in mainland Turkey and their major TV advertising on CNN starts with shots from Byzantine icons and churches. Bazaar mentality. It is interesting that the older the church, ie built before 1571, the higher the risk of demolition, for obvious reasons.

We could of course behave like assholes in the south and go tit for tat, but then we would be condemned by all our "sworn" friends and allies.
