Transporting Terrapins to U.K.

Another last minute conundrum .... :D

I was under the impression we could take my son's terrapin in a sandwich box on-board the plane with us, for our pending trip to the UK ....

It's not an endangered species, nor a hazard for Human or indigenous UK wildlife.

The DEFRA site does not offer any restrictions for these reptiles ...

I promised it could go on that basis .....

Now I am told by British Airways it has to go Cargo in a Wooden Box ... which would be fine ... but they want a receipt from the Pet shop where we bought it ....

Has anyone transported reptiles between Cyprus and UK and vice versa before?

Velcro it to your jacket and pretend its a brooch?

Seriously though, I thought all reptiles needed (like any other live creature a vets certificate at the very least)

8) Actually i thought that terrapins carried a nasty form of gastro enteritis that could be passed on to humans via their tank water, handling them or their droppings?
Mind you none of this matters as you still cant get him on the plane :?

Well when the nice lady suggested I produce a pet shop receipt (I don't think I ever got one :? ) ... I suggested I could contact the vet for some kind of authentication, but she insisted only a pet shop receipt would do

I didn't realise Pet shops had so much validity or authority ..... it really sounds strange to me :?

Give it a snorkel or a diving suit.

No this is the companion which is a real survivor and packed full of charm, verve and very clever and affectionate ... (so I would rather have it with us too).

It comes to me when I call it and follows me around if I keep talking ... I just love him/her/it! 8)

You will probably also need a certificate from the vet to state that pet is fit to travel! Do terrapins carry any diseases?

Contact a vet or an animal 'courier'
