There were many lovely villages .... sorry I can't be more specific
On reflection I did like that part of the country a lot more than the reference to Milton Keynes would suggest ....
But I do hate roundabouts, and new buildings and MK had both It took me years to work out their grid system.
But the surrounding areas were just great, except when I had to pass through St. Albans occasionally, and there used to be a 5 circle (or was it more?) roundabout

As i was living there before milton keynes the "city" (not the settlement mentioned in the doomsay book) arrived i can agree. whaddon, wolverton, stony stratford (of cock and bull fame) haversham, olney (of amazing grace fame, and the pancake race) newton longville, woburn. bletchley (of enigma codebreakers) there were some lovely villages dotted around that area, and a lot of history too. just a shame that some of other areas guttersnipes moved there...but with an overcrowded country that happens everywhere.
