Turkey and Cyprus have cut off diplomatic ties. There is no Turkish embassy.

Wrong. It is in the north of Nicosia just a stones throw away from the Ledra Palace crossing.

There is a differance between beibg "gutsy" or brave and just plain stupid! :?

Why is it plain stupid? Particularly if it was focussed around a demand that could win the support of a section of the TC community and it was bi-communal in nature, it would have a massive impact.

Yes, people would get arrested and be beaten up. Those kinds of fears did not stop people from joining the fight against British imperialism in the 1950s, did it?

OK. It's a pseudo embassy, then. My point stands that it would be a far more effective place to stage a demonstration if anybody has the guts to do it.

If such a demonstration were to go ahead, imagine the horrors from the north about us complaining, when in reality we "invited" the 40,000 Turkish troops!

Why demonstrate in front of an illegal institution thereby giving it the legitimacy it seeks?

Good point. So stage protests in front of Turkish military facilities instead. There are plenty to choose from.

Tim do you have any idea what that means?

A lot of Cypriots not only had "protests" with these troops, but not so long ago and fresh in the memory of a lot .. was the fact they were up against them in a war!

So you are asking a lot of people that are still traumatised from a war to face their armed aggressors once again ... but unarmed themselves and pleading for them to go away ... when they killed and raped their way to the island just 3 decades ago!

We can all email a message to every turko embassy around the world causing a DoS, denial of service...flood the bastards and bring their system down...

Not an illegal act as all emails are coming from different individuals...and not a one source...

Someone draft a letter and pass it around...

It is stupid because we are talking about a regime that finds it acceptable to shoot an unarmed civilian for daring to even lay a finger on their precious flag. We are not talking about Australia or USA here, this is the "trnc".

It is also stupid conducting such a demonstration in front of this pseudo "embassy" because it could be deemed as de-facto recognition by the demonstrating citizens of Cyprus of this bogus embassy.
