ABOLISHMENT OF TRNC IS OUT OF QUESTION

Postby soyer » Fri Jul 11, 2008 2:30 pm

President Talat stated that the partnership government will be realised with the sovereignty of two societies.

Talat underlined that the issue of single sovereignty was not accepted by the Turkish Cypriot Side as the sovereignty should not be sourced from the ‘Cyprus People’ and this was registered at the UN.

Talat pointed out that at the 1st of July meeting, Greek Cypriot Leader Dimitris Hristofias argued that the sovereignty was sourced from two communities that made up the Cyprus People however he rejected this and argued for sovereignty of two societies. Also Talat underlined that they argued this at the presence of the UN Special Representative for Cyprus Taye Brooke Zerihoun and this argument was registered at the UN.

On the other hand Talat stated that they agreed on principle about single sovereignty and single citizenship and reminded that there will be single sovereignty in the united state but this issue will be finalized with the full-fledged negotiations.

I'm amazed at everyone's acceptance of this tactic. What possible motive could the Turkish side have on insisting that the republic is the coming together of 2 separate states other than a window for a clean split into 2 countries later on.

How can anyone justify this?

Why DT. did you have even the slightest doubt about the aim of the Turkish side which is the same aim they had since the 50s?

Everything that the Turkish side demands is about separation and division. The only thing that they want to be united is our foreign policy, so Turkey through their settlers and the TCs (and their vetos) can totally silence the Cypriots so they will be able to continue with their crimes against us without us having even the power to officially complain as a country at the UN or EU.
