The Party Council of the ruling Republican Turkish Party gathered yesterday to evaluated the latest developments on the Cyprus issue and the domestic scene.
Members of the council agreed on the common view that the process launched by the two leaders within the framework of the 21st March agreement should lead to the immediate start of comprehensive negotiations to find a solution to the Cyprus Problem.
The party council stated that a date for the start of direct talks should be announced when the two leaders come together again on the 25th of July.Members also expressed the view the conditions to achieve a bi-communal, bi-zonal federation on the basis of political equality were more favorable compared to the past.
A decision adopted at the end of the meeting stated that the aim of reactions shown by some circles to the issues of single sovereignty and citizenship, which the two leaders had in principle agreed upon in the 1st July meeting aimed at preventing the start of full-fledged negotiations.
