The Presidential spokesperson Hasan Ercakıca has said that the Greek Cypriot Side would not get a positive response from President Mehmet Ali Talat if it wanted to remove Turkey’s guarantee to gain absolute sovereignty over the whole island.

The spokesperson said `if this is a precondition, there will be no agreement`.

Responding to BRT’s questions on the latest developments concerning the Cyprus issue, Mr Ercakica said that the UN Special Envoy for Cyprus Alexander Downer would be trying to learn the details of the Cyprus problem during his contacts on the island.

The Spokesperson stated that Turkey’s guarantee over the island had prevented bloodshed in Cyprus when he was asked to comment on statements by the Greek Cypriot Government spokesman Stefanos Stefanu and the President of the Greek Cypriot House of Representatives Marios Karoyan.

Earlier, Stefano said that the negotiations process would reveal
which side’s thesis is in support of a solution and which side’s isn’t and Karoian said that they would not accept a solution which would provide Turkey with guarantorship rights over the island.

`The Greek Cypriot Side will not get a positive response from President Mehmet Ali Talat if it sees Turkey’s guarantee as an obstacle in the way of getting absolute sovereignty over the whole island and wants to remove it`, he said.

Mr Ercakica pointed out that the Turkish Cypriot Side had long ago proved its willingness towards bringing about a solution to the Cyprus problem within the framework of the UN Parameters.

`We don’t have to prove our willingness for a solution everyday, but if we are asked, we are ready to do so`, he said.

Stressing that the aim of the Turkish Cypriot Side is to reach an agreement acceptable for both sides, he underlined the importance of putting any possible solution to be found to separate simultaneous referenda on both sides of the island.

Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer has said that 18 new capters will be opened for harmonization talks with the European Union.
Speaking during a visit paid to him today, the Premier said that the talks being carried out on 12 chapters have reached to a point and that the opening of new chapters is on the agenda.

Mr Soyer said that he would be announcing the details of the issue at a press conference tomorrow.

He noted that the talks are not being held openly in line with the request of the European Union.

The Premier said that the situation would change after the start of fully-fledged negotiations between the two sides.

`If a federal administration is to be formed, and if the Turkish Cypriot Side is to be one of the equal sides, we should prepare for EU membership and a solution openly`, he noted.

EC SIGNED GRANT CONTRACTS WITH 26 FARMERS TO HELP THEM PAY FOR DIARY HYGENE EQUIPMENT
The European Commission has signed grant contracts with 26 sheep and goat farmers in North Cyprus to help them pay for dairy hygiene equipment, such as milking machines and cold tanks.

A kick off event was held at the EU Program Support Office in Lefkosa(Nicosia) this morning.

The contracts range from 10,000 to 25,000 Euros in value and they cover up to 65% of the farmers’ investment.

The grant scheme activities will be implemented over a period of up to 12 months and the beneficiaries will receive thorough guidance from EU-financed experts on how to proceed.

The pilot grant scheme serves to demonstrate how investment support may be delivered under the Rural Development pillar of the EU Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot People.

During the event, information was provided about the project by the Coordinator of the Aid Program Alessandra Viezzer and Michael Bullen – an official from the European Commission.

Delivering a speech at the event, Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer underlined the need for the Turkish Cypriot People to improve their standards to catch up with EU standards in order to prepare itself for EU membership.

Noting that the implementation of projects which would make the Turkish Cypriots ready for the EU membership are necessary, the Premier said that the program is a step forward in the efforts being waged towards making new investments in cold chain infrastructure and farming.

haha - you have underlined my words nicely. Turkish 'peace' is ethnic cleansing and cultural destruction. You start a war then have the nerve to lie and blame others. On top of that you hold the Turkish military in a higher esteem than God! I will repeat it again - IT IS NO WONDER THAT THE REST OF THE MIDDLE EAST DISLIKES THE TURKS

Ahh Zan are we back on that again? lol

I may not have a clue but you are truley the joke of this forum. Its people with your attitude that are the cause of the real eradication of Turkish Cypriots by Turkey itself. Thats fine, in 50 years the Cyprus will be one whole state again populated by over 90% Greek Cypriots - and thats all because of people like you who are brainwashed by Turkish nationalism.
