Turkish Foreign Minister and Chief Negotiator with the EU Ali Babacan has called on the European Union to give support to President Mehmet Ali Talat during the negotiations process and make contact with him.

Mr Babacan who was in France’s city of Avingon for the informal meeting of EU Foreign Ministers met with the EU Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn.

The two men discussed the crisis in Caucasus, Turkey’s EU membership process and the Cyprus issue.

During the meeting, the EU Commissioner told Mr Babacan that he is appreciating Turkey’s policy it has been carrying recently in the region.

For his part, the Turkish Foreign Minister said Turkey will continue to be in a constructive and supportive attitude during the newly launched negotiations process between President Talat and the Greek Cypriot Leader Dimitris Christofias.

"Turkish Foreign Minister and Chief Negotiator with the EU Ali Babacan has called on the European Union to give support to President Mehmet Ali Talat during the negotiations process and make contact with him".

EU : President who?

Babacan : President Talat.

EU : Never heard of President Talat before.

Babacan : You know, the President of the TRNC.

EU : Let me look into my official world's Presidents guide book. Sorry, I can't find any President Talat in my book.

Babacan : He is the President of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

EU : I'm sorry, but as far as the EU's official guide book is concerned, there is only one country of Cyprus, and officially, there is only one President on the island who's name is Christofias. Is that the President you are talking about.?

Babacan : No I'm bloody well not. I'm talking about President Talat.

EU : Let me look in the index section. Okay, here is something. Sorry, but we only call him either Mr. Talat or the leader of the Turkish Community and not a President.

Bababcan : Damn EU, always playing by the book.!

The chief shit spreader does not lose any opportunity to disgrace our president and calls him 'leader' Whilst he gives superiority to him LEADER and calls him president.

Halil you are a fucking hypocrite. You claim peace, you light candles, you do peace demos, yet you have the cheek to disgrace us at every opportunity. Fuck off you arse hole.

I am sick yo death of the shit you keep spewing, carefully worded, manipulated texts and only show what suits you. You truely are a propoganda merchant, I hope bayrak pays you well for the hatred you spread and yet you have the audacity to claim to be peace loving, take a hike.

Gul and Bush are both criminals and it matter not one iota what they want, the GC nation will decide what they want, not the foreigners and outsiders, for it it them that have caused this problem in the first place.

I don't hate Tcs or Turks, i think every GC family should have one. Moron.

Pantheman, I think you need to stop reading halils posts because it is not good for your morale man. I have certainly stopped doing so. If halil has something to say as an individual he can say so and I will be more than happy to listen. I am no longer going to read the bayrak shit.

Having said that, we know the TC's are hypocrites and they are willing to take from the enemy because they can, in which case I cannot find any integrity in that, but we can learn from them. We too can light candles an show to the international community of our plight for a free country. A free country where all citizens are equal. We can demonstaret agains the Turkish occupation of our land. We need to echo to the world and the Europena Union that in 2008 we have refugee without a choice and thta Turkish armies violate out human rights.

To do this we need to formualte committees and representatives that march in Brussels ever time the EU parliament seats.

EU urges Turkey to break cycle of political crisis
By Paul Taylor ReutersPublished: September 6, 2008

AVIGNON, France: The European Union urged Turkey on Friday to break out of a cycle of political crisis by enacting reforms to prepare for EU membership, and praised its regional peacemaking role.

The 27-nation bloc's Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn urged Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan to resume EU reforms at full speed after the government survived an attempt by hardline secular prosecutors to shut down the ruling AK party.

The Constitutional Court last month narrowly failed to reach the necessary majority to ban the party, which has its roots in political Islam, after months of uncertainty which shook Turkish markets and the lira currency.

"We have urged Turkey to reform the law on political parties as a matter of urgency to avoid this sort of severe political crisis in the future," Rehn told Reuters after the two men met on the sidelines of an EU foreign ministers' meeting in France.

They also discussed the conflict in Georgia and Turkey's proposals for a platform to stabilise the Caucasus region, and its efforts to mediate in Israeli-Syrian peace talks.

"Turkey's active diplomacy towards Syria, the Middle East, Armenia and the Caucasus show its paramount importance as our partner in advancing regional stability in one of the most unstable parts of the world," Rehn said.

The EU accession process would further facilitate joint work by the EU and Turkey to stabilise those regions, he said.

REFORM AGENDA

Babacan said he outlined Turkey's plans to take forward its EU accession process, which has been stymied by disputes over Cyprus and resistance by France to the goal of eventual Turkish membership of the bloc.

He said Turkey expected to open negotiations on two more policy areas with the EU under the current French presidency of the bloc, which lasts till the end of the year, taking the total number of subjects under discussion to 10 out of the 35 chapters into which EU law is divided.

Babacan said Turkey was fully prepared to start talks on a range of other issues, including economic and monetary policy, energy, education and culture, and foreign policy, but was being blocked by political obstacles in the EU.

Despite the political crisis, the Turkish parliament passed 29 EU-related laws in the session that ended in July, and a national programme for EU convergence would be submitted to parliament when it returns from recess on October 7, he said.

"We know very well what is expected from us and what we need to do anyway. We have every reason to push ahead with our reform agenda," the minister told Reuters in an interview.

Rehn said he encouraged the Turkish government to improve political dialogue with opposition forces so that more reforms could be enacted by consensus. He has urged Ankara to finally enact an EU-driven law introducing an ombudsman, which could take some of the sting out of religious-secular issues.

News from Northern Cyprus ..............

EUROPEAN UNION SHOULD NOT BE PLAYING DIRECT ROLE IN NEGOTIATIONS PROCESS BUT INSTEAD GIVE TECHNICAL SUPPORT

President Mehmet Ali Talat has emphasized that the European Union should not be playing a direct role in the new negotiations process that has started in Cyprus but instead be giving technical support.

The President’s comments came during an interview he gave to the Elefteros Tipos newspaper which is published in Athens.

Answering the papers questions regarding the role the European Union may have during the negotiations process, the President said after the Greek Cypriot sides unilateral entrance to the EU as the representative of the whole island, the EU has begun to take sides. Pointed to the fact that the Greek Cypriot side has the support of EU member Nations as it too is a member of the block, the President said ‘the European Union is acting in favor of its members interests and because of this it cannot play a positive role in the Cyprus negotiations process’.

‘The isolation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is still continuing and the European Union is still a strong supporter of this isolation. The Union has not fulfilled its promise of easing the Turkish Cypriot sides’ isolation’, he added.

Reminding that program prepared by the European Union for the Turkish Cypriot people were being blocked by the Greek Cypriot side, Mehmet Ali Talat reiterated that the EU is not playing a positive role during the negotiations process and efforts in this direction were also being hampered.
