On Tuesday night, the windows of three shops and a vehicle owned by Turkish Cypriots were smashed and the Ataturk bust was also desecrated with white chalk paint.

Speaking on the issue before yesterday’s meeting of the Council of Ministers, Mr Soyer stated that Turkish Cypriot officials as well as officials from the United Nations are continuing their investigations into the incidents, adding that the results of investigations will be announced to the public.

Prime Minister Soyer pointed out that some sides in the Greek Cypriot side are trying to overshadow the positive atmosphere formed in Cyprus ahead of the 3rd September meeting between President Mehmet Ali Talat and the Greek Cypriot Leader Demetris Christofias.

He warned people not to be deceived by such tricks.

Looks like Soyer and Halil's Bayrak are suffering from the same illness, which is telling the truth as told by the respectable journalist and governments around the world.

Honesty is free Halil, so it will not cost you a penny to speak it. Pass this message to Soyer also, will you.!!

As soon as we have some clarity as to who the offenders are and their motives, I'll be happy to discuss it VP, so tell Soyer to give us evidence who the culprits are, otherwise there isn't very much to talk about, or is there.??

And I'm sure you have plenty of evidence to support your claim, right VP.?

But I must confess, that I did complain like hell to you recently regarding the murders of unarmed GC civilians, Isaak and Solomou by the murdering criminals that were happened to be TC's and settlers in the north, which you defended their actions but found the murdered victims at fault for their deaths, and still no justice has been brought to the murderers in the last 12 years while they are freely roaming amongst you. If you are referring to this incident, then I plea guilty.

If it were the other way around and it was GCs that were attacked

Once again you are doing your usual propaganda by trying to exploit the situation by exaggerating what may only be a some idiots on a rampage to damage and deface some property and not attacking TC's personally as you try to draw comparison with your above reference to GC's being attacked in the north. Now VP, where the hell did you read that TC's were attacked anywhere relating to this story, which was nothing but damaged cars and a statue. When I asked Soyer and Halil's Bayrak to be honest, perhaps you should also be reminded, that being honest does not cost anything, unless of course, being honest is not in your best interest.

Villagers opposing the law on Local Administrations which envisages the integration of all villages with municipalities, as agreed by the Council of Ministers, have held a protest rally in capital Lefkosa. (Nicosia)
Villagers from 48 villages gathered at the 10. Yil Park and then marched to the Prime Ministry.

Villagers earlier explained that they were against the implementation of law, some claiming that the law was prepared with the aim of providing more financial resources for municipalities.

They said the decision on law had been taken without taking their views and approval.

NGOS EXPRESS DISTURBANCE OVER RECENT PRICE HIKES
Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer has received the representatives of 15 non-governmental organizations which recently presented the government with a 12 point package of proposals to improve the ailing economy.

Speaking during the meeting on behalf of the organizations, the President of the Cyprus Turkish Public Employees Trade Union (KTAMS) Ahmet Kaptan said that they were aware that there were numerous economic problems being faced in the country but said they were greatly disturbed by the recent price hikes introduced by the government.

Complaining that the price hikes put the public under a heavy financial burden, Kaptan said that it was not possible for them to accept the abnormal rise in prices.

Expressing the view that important progress will be achieved in the forthcoming negotiations on the Cyprus Problem due to begin on the 3rd of September, the KTAMs President said they were ready to contribute to the process in anyway possible.

For his part, Prime Minister Soyer said that preparations for the creation of an economic platform were underway.

Underlining the importance of developing the economy, the Prime Minister said that the economy was an issue which concerned the future of the Turkish Cypriot people and should therefore be taken up carefully.

Explaining that a failure to find a solution to the Cyprus Problem would strengthen nationalist tendencies, Soyer said that the government’s priority was to reach a political settlement.

Pointing out that various circles who opposed a settlement had stepped up their efforts ahead of the negotiations process; the Prime Minister underlined the need to be calm and to be alert.

The Prime Minister also said that the most of the recent price hikes introduced by the government were inevitable as a result of a rise in global fuel and food prices.

SOYER, AVCI AND MURAT WILL HOLD INSPECTIONS IN PILE(PYLA) AMID THIS WEEK’S VANDALISM

Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer, Deputy Prime Minister-Foreign Minister Turgay Avci and the Minister of Interior Ozkan Murat will hold an inspection tour in the mixed village of Pile this afternoon.

The inspection visit comes amid recent vandalism in the village where some Turkish Cypriot properties and the bust of Ataturk at the Turkish Cypriot primary school faced some destruction.

Those responsible for the attacks remain unknown so far.

Meanwhile, political parties and civil society organizations continue their condemnation over the incident.

Recently, the National Unity Party said in a written statement that the recent development in Pile is proof of the well-known Greek Cypriot approach and that it should not be taken up as just a provocation.

The UBP statement made the claim that the incident proved the dangers of the concepts of ‘common living’ and ‘a united Cyprus’, adding that the Pile incident has been a good example to the significance of bi-zonality.
