THE NEWS FROM NORTHERN CYPRUS

The Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Mustafa Gokmen has renewed his call to citizens on making careful use of water- which has been a global problem remaining in high alarm.

Calls to solve growing challenges of sanitation, climate change and drinkable supplies have been renewed worldwide within the framework of the World Water Week which kicked off yesterday.

In his statement on the issue, Minister Gokmen reminded that the Ministry continues its search for alternative water resources as Cyprus has limited resources due to low rain.

However the Minister noted that the biggest project on water resources is to bring water from Turkey with the establishment of an underwater system.

Reminding that the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan had earlier said that the project was almost completed, Mustafa Gokmen stated that the Dragon Rill of the Mediterranean will flow into the TRNC lands, latest by 2013.

Meanwhile, World Water Week gets underway in Stockholm where 2,500 delegates are to discuss issues around water with a special focus on sanitation and hygiene.

Almost half of the world’s population lacks proper toilet facilities, a situation that can have profound consequences for public health.
Children are among the most vulnerable to health problems caused by contaminated water.

According to UNICEF more than 5,000 children under five die of diarrhoea every day as a direct result of poor sanitation.

This poll is meaningless, since we don't know who answered the questions.!!

Were they TC's, fake TC's or settlers. Since settlers and fake TC's are 4:1 ratio are the majority over True TC's, you can discard 80% from each category from the above %percentages%.!

Kikabucuğum . birtaneciğim ,

i know you are living at moon ..... İt doesn't matter what was the ratio ....

TRNC citezens are saying these figures .............Those people that they voted for Annan Plan .....

There was no option at that time and there will be no option again canım .

too many rivers passed under the sea Kikacuğum . Cyprus is not same as you were left ages ago .... Lifes keep going on and on in here mate .... no one is going to stopped the clock .... than many changes can be happened as the life goes on ... you can not control it .... conditions are changes everything ... if you will or not .....

Halil,

You sound just a little "too high" my friend. Just what the hell have you been smoking lately.!

Where does it say, that those that were polled were only TC's or even True TC's and Fake TC's who are eligible to vote. The poll sounds to be a random survey, most likely by telephone, and not counting the True TC's and Fake TC's, the rest being 60% settlers, are more than likely to be in the poll results.

Halil, can you do a search for me please, and find out a credible report that states, that only the eligible True TC's and Fake TC's voters were polled for the poll above.........thanks.

One more thing. Why would any pollster would ask anyone in the north, if they would vote for a 2004 Annan Plan again.? :? :? :?

Just what the hell were they smoking to ask such irrelevant question.

Oh one more thing. How on earth can 67% say that they will vote "NO" on the next referendum, when no one knows what the hell is on the referendum to be voted on.!!

The whole poll/survey sounds to be like it was all "cooked up" in some one's kitchen.!

THE NEWS FROM THE NORTHERN CYPRUS.

The Presidential Spokesman has said that statements made by the Greek Cypriot leadership on the issue of territory will have an adverse effect on the upcoming negotiations process.

He said that the two leaders should remain discreet for the exception of informing the two sides of their actions.

Speaking to reporters during his weekly press briefing, the Presidential spokesman said that no one should be misled into believing that Turkish Cypriots are ready to concede to anything just because they said ‘yes’ to the Annan Plan.

Ercakica reminded that the senior aides of the two leaders will be coming together next week final preparations ahead of scheduled negotiations set to begin on the 3rd of September.

He told reporters that the Greek Cypriot Side also wanted to discuss the issue of opening the Yesilirmak crossing point at the meeting.

Reminding that the senior aides, the President’s special representative for negotiations Ozdil Nami and Greek Cypriot commissioner Yorgos Yakovu, had been instructed by the two leaders to work towards the opening of new crossing points; Ercakica said that the Turkish Cypriot Side had no objection to discussing the issue.

Explaining that the opening of a crossing point in Yesilirmak will help end the isolation of the inhabitants of Pirgo, the Presidential Spokesman said that the Turkish Cypriot Side had raised the need to introduce similar measures to end the isolation of Turkish Cypriots living in the mixed village of Pile.

Ercakica also pointed out that certain technical problem could emerge with the opening of a crossing point at Yesilirmak but added that all these would be discussed on the table.

He said that statements made by Yakovu to the Greek Cypriot Press indicated that the Greek Cypriot Side had completed all preparations and was ready to announce the opening of a crossing point in the area.

Touching upon the recent statements made by the Greek Cypriot political leadership concerning possible territorial concessions, the Presidential Spokesman warned that the Greek Cypriot Side wanted the return of not only Guzelyurt but also other areas such as Karpaz and Maras.

“I’m sorry to disappoint them but that is not possible” he added.
The Presidential Spokesman also warned that the Greek Cypriot Side could be demanding more concessions than envisaged in the Annan Plan but added that it would not be possible for Turkish Cypriots to accept such a solution.

Also commenting on the latest developments in Georgia, Ercakica said that they were carefully watching the world being dragged into a new cold war, one that would have adverse effects on the Cyprus Problem.
He expressed the view that the Cyprus would have been less affected had there been a just and immediate solution found to the Cyprus Problem.

halil, mate.... nothing in waht Talat indicates that the TC's are conceding to anything at this stage. I like the way that the spokesman for Talat advocates for non transparency. Well thats a way to do business.

On the other hand anything that is beneficial to the TC side is always up for discussion but not much of what is important to the GC side. I do personally hope that the crossing point is opened asap, however, I just don't like hypocricy.

As far as the intransigence of the TC side goes, I am more convinced that partition on 18% -82% is the way to go, because the TC side is so short sighted we are going to have problems in the future. Partition with a border and security for the RoC should be priority for Christofias.

Mr. Ercakica, just because you took your father too seriously, for saying to you that "one Turk equals the whole world," and therefore you were made to believe and expect that the 18% of Cypriots should have in their possession and control, the best 30% of Cyprus, and 50% of its coastlines; I’m sorry to disappoint you, but that is not possible!

Ercakica is not in contact with his brain.

If, according to him, no territorial concessions are possible then what are we discussing in these talks? How the TCs will participate in governing GCs?

THE NEWS FROM THE NORTHERN CYPRUS:

PR TALAT SAID CYPRUS PROBLEM WILL BE BROUGHT TO END AND TURKISH CYPRIOT RIGHTS WILL NO WAY BE TAKEN BACKWARD

‘We are going to sit at the negotiations table in order to take the Turkish Cypriot People’s gained rights forward, and not backward’, President Mehmet Ali Talat has stressed.
The President made his statement during yesterday’s handover ceremony of the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces at its headquarters during which the Commander of the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces Major General Mehmet Eroz handed over his duty to Major General Abdullah Recep.
In his address at the ceremony, the President stressed that the Cyprus problem, which has been elongated for many years, will be brought to an end.
‘This however, primarily depends on the Greek Cypriot side and its supporters’ approaches. Filling in the pocket beforehand is not such a move that we will crown’ Mr Talat emphasized.
Noting that the Turkish Cypriot side will sit at the negotiations table with good will and flexibility, President Talat reaffirmed that they will be moving forward with the determination to protect the Turkish Cypriot People’s gained rights.
He added that the struggle waged by Turkish Cypriots since 1950 and afterwards, martyrs and war veterans are not such things that can be wasted.

We will be searching for a lasting and just settlement which will unite the Turkish Cypriot rights with contemporary world norms. We do not want a solution that will bring us back to the bitter experiences of the past, but that will instead take us towards lasting peace’ the President added.

UBP SAYS CHRISTOFIAS IS PREPARING TO PUT PRECONDITIONS

The main opposition National Unity Party has expressed concern over the Greek Cypriot Leader Dimitris Christofias recent statements concerning the return of Guzelyurt, Karpaz and Maras to the Greek Cypriot Administration.
In a written statement today, the UBP pointed out that the Greek Cypriot Leader is preparing to sit at the negotiations table with preconditions that should not be accepted.

Stating that Mr Christofias’ words did not come as a surprise, the party statement said that Greek Cypriot Sides’ approach was proof that the Greek Cypriot Administration had achieved success and got what it wanted on the issues of single sovereignty, international identity and citizenship.

Also referring to President Mehmet Ali Talat’s words that the property issue is among the last issues to be negotiated, the statement reminded that the Greek Cypriot Side claimed that issues such as administration, land and property will be brought to the agenda following the ‘ceremonial start of negotiations on the 3rd of September.

The UBP also warned in its statement that any speculation made on the property issue would create an economic, humanitarian and political deadlock in the country and called on Mr Talat to stand behind his statement he made on the property issue.
