News from the north

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby halil » Thu Aug 14, 2008 6:25 pm

Deputy Prime Minister-Foreign Minister Turgay Avci has underlined the urgent need for cleaning up the racist and anti-Turkish elements included in the Greek Cypriot history books instructed at schools.

Mr Avci’s statement came in reaction to the Greek Cypriot Undersecretary from the Ministry of Education- Olmpia Stylianou’s statement on the issue that the review and update of those history books would take from 3 to 4 years.

Stressing the need for a rearrangement in the Greek Cypriot educational system- which he said is under the control of the Greek Cypriot Christian Orthodox Church- in order to improve mutual trust between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots, the Foreign Minister said the Greek Cypriot side has proved its insincere attitude on the issue with such statements.

For his part, Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer pointed to the important economic, political and democratic developments in Turkey and said all these developments caused Turkey to provide stability against events around her.

Stability around her (Turkey).????

Really Soyer.?? ( This is another Soyer. Do not mistake him with Liar Soyer)

So what happened in Georgia then with the Russians, or perhaps you did not hear about it.!

"promising that Turkey will do all it should to complete the construction of the road before 2010."

From another thread we saw that wherever Turkey invests that part of the island is "off the table" as far as the political settlement and related territorial arrangments go. In other words if they build enough roads then that's it, no territory is returned.

Nice people to do business with.

Andrea

Tell that to Bananiot who likes to remind us that if we had not rejected the Avnan plan Turkey would not be so nasty.

I am sure Bananiot can look around him and see that not only Cypriots suffred at the fate of Turks but also Kurds and a few others whose lands have been ripped under their feet by the Turkish killing machine.

It is also possible, that Turkey wants all the money they may have invested in the north on infrastructure, to be part of the settlement. Since Turkey is in charge of what goes on in the north, as the case is with any occupying force, they want to be first in line to be reimburse.
