Foreign Minister Turgay Avci has accused the Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias of making insincere and distorted statements at the Olympic Games in Beijing.

Speaking on the issue, the Foreign Minister complained that the Greek Cypriot leader, who pretentiously talked about peace and friendship between nations at the Beijing games, did not refrain from continuing to wage his polices that denies the existence, status and political equality of Turkish Cypriots.

Pointing out that the flag raised at the games was a Greek Cypriot flag, Avci said that the world needed to know that the Greek Cypriot Administration and the so-called Republic of Cyprus did not represent the Turkish Cypriot people.

“If that flag really does represent Turkish Cypriots as claimed, how is that the Cyprus Olympic team introduced by Christofias does not even have one Turkish Cypriot on it? He should explain why a single Turkish Cypriot is not taking part in the Olympics,” he added.

Avci said that talking about friendship and brotherhood between Turkish and Greek Cypriots at the Olympic Games at a time when Turkish Cypriot football clubs are not even allowed to play friendly matches with other international teams was nothing by hypocrisy.

You will be seeing more of this, live with it. You are an illegal regime as difined by the UN charter, live with it. You cannot have it both ways, you do not recoginse the RoC, but want all the benefits, tough so live with it.

And if you are not careful you will live with it for the next 200+ years as you will never be recognised unless we say so, Live with it.

You have some strange idea of the importance of the ROC Pantheman if you think that it can stop the freewill of countries throughout the world in recognising the TRNC.

I am afraid such ideas must come from another planet and if the present negotiations do not bring about a resolution to the Cyprus problem it can only be a matter of time before recognition starts.

Yes, ok, now dream on. After 34 years of NON recognition what do you think has changed?? Nothing, zero, zilch. You cannot be recognised by international law, no one will dare do so, because this means that all of the illegalities that Turkey has committed would be accepted, therefore no country in the world would be safe from invading forces.

the UN charter itself determines this and all those that have signed it cannot unsign it. Get real, you are unrecognised until the RoC say so, live with it. You have more to lose than us.

I have to say you did give me a good chuckle then, I thought that was very funny, even from another planet. idiot.

How many Olympics have there been since Turkey invaded Cyprus ...

1976
1980
1984
1988
1992
1996
2000
2004
2008

Was the "TRNC" recognised for participation in any of those?

NO!

Why is Avci the idiot who obviously during the weekend read my "How many Olympic medals will" .... "TRNC" get in the Olympics ... ZERO because they are not there! thread ..... now complaining they are not represented, and moaning about the Interview I posted with Mr Christofias ... does he get all his information from this forum

I think you may be excluded by the clause for a legal entity as well as the requirement of 5000 inhabitants for which:

Actions must demonstrate strong local ownership

I have absolutely nothing to lose whatsoever. What makes you think I have?

Don't get too upset when recognitions start. The only thing to stop this will be an agreement following the current negotiations.

What a strange way to build relations and set the ground for negotiations. Calling the President of the Republic a pretentious liar and a hypocrite and using it as a platform to make complaints that your illegal state isn't allowed to compete as part of the RoC team?

One might think that the 'TRNC' have no intention of conducting meaningful negotiations...

Jesus, where do TC's get off at blamin everyone else for their failings. Avci is an idiot and so are a few others. Start complaining if you had someone of an Olympic competition standard and Christofias said not ot them being part of the Cyprus Olympic team, representing Cyprus under the Cyprus flag.

Avci is further of an idiot, he questions why there is no TC's on the Cyprus team whilst he is probably pushing for (a) unity with Turkey & (b) recognition as an independent nation.

Get a life I say.
