The CTP Executive Board in its statement said the CTP is in favour of simultaneous referenda while some other sides are against that.

Referendum is the representation of free will of the two peoples’ in Cyprus and it also constitutes the basis for the approval and protection of democratic rights and the peace agreement’ the CTP statement further said.

News from the Northern Cyprus

The Presidential Spokesman Hasan Ercakica has announced that the senior aides of the two leaders will come together later this month to work on the formula of comprehensive negotiations due to start on the 3rd of September.

The spokesman also said that the proposals put forward by the world’s governing football body-FIFA should be on a basis that reflects the political equality of the two sides.

Speaking at his weekly press briefing today, the Presidential Spokesman said that preparations for the forthcoming negotiations on the Cyprus Problem will speed up once the President returns from Tunisia where he is attending his daughter’s wedding.

Explaining that the senior aides of the two leaders, Yorgo Yakovu and Ozdil Nami will be getting together at the end of this month to prepare for the negotiations process, Ercakica said that no work is being carried out on the issue at this point in time.

He also said the two representatives will discuss the opening of new crossing points, as instructed by the two leaders, when they meet.

Stressing that there has been no change in the Turkish Cypriot Side’s position regarding the opening of new crossing points, the spokesman said that in parallel to the opening of a crossing point in Yesilirmak, they were also looking at ways of creating a new access route to the mixed village of Pyla so as to free it from its state of isolation.

Pointing out that access to Erenkoy needs be established should a crossing point in Yesilirmak be opened, Ercakica said that their outlook towards allowing the inhabitants of Prygo to use the Yesilirmak crossing point to attend religious ceremonies at Guzelyurt’s St. Mamas Church was positive.
He said that the Turkish Cypriot Side will announce its decision on the issue next week.

Reminding about the meeting between the Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias and the Greek Cypriot Archbishop Chrisostomos, the Presidential Spokesman expressed the hope that such meetings will not limit the Greek Cypriot leader’s negotiations capabilities.

News from the north .................

Foreign Minister Turgay Avci has accused the Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias of making insincere and distorted statements at the Olympic Games in Beijing.

Speaking on the issue, the Foreign Minister complained that the Greek Cypriot leader, who pretentiously talked about peace and friendship between nations at the Beijing games, did not refrain from continuing to wage his polices that denies the existence, status and political equality of Turkish Cypriots.

Pointing out that the flag raised at the games was a Greek Cypriot flag, Avci said that the world needed to know that the Greek Cypriot Administration and the so-called Republic of Cyprus did not represent the Turkish Cypriot people.

“If that flag really does represent Turkish Cypriots as claimed, how is that the Cyprus Olympic team introduced by Christofias does not even have one Turkish Cypriot on it? He should explain why a single Turkish Cypriot is not taking part in the Olympics,” he added.

Avci said that talking about friendship and brotherhood between Turkish and Greek Cypriots at the Olympic Games at a time when Turkish Cypriot football clubs are not even allowed to play friendly matches with other international teams was nothing by hypocrisy.

You will be seeing more of this, live with it. You are an illegal regime as difined by the UN charter, live with it. You cannot have it both ways, you do not recoginse the RoC, but want all the benefits, tough so live with it.

And if you are not careful you will live with it for the next 200+ years as you will never be recognised unless we say so, Live with it.

You have some strange idea of the importance of the ROC Pantheman if you think that it can stop the freewill of countries throughout the world in recognising the TRNC.

I am afraid such ideas must come from another planet and if the present negotiations do not bring about a resolution to the Cyprus problem it can only be a matter of time before recognition starts.

Were there any TC Olympic contenders that were refused by the RoC, or was Avci expecting a 50-50 representation, regardless of the athletes ability to be a contender.

The Swiss sent a team to China, and I do not think if there were Representatives from all 4 communities. Only the best went and not proportionately from each community.

There is only one flag for Cyprus .

One can accept it or reject it, but cannot change it's definition to something that is not, ie "Greek Cypriot Flag".!

As for Avci complaining about not being able to play friendlies with other foreign teams, really make mockery of the definition of being "Independent", as he claims that the "trnc" is.!!

Upon a settlement, it will become your official flag, so don't knock it, so that you might just be able to swallow your pride easier without choking too much later on..!
