Why Turks exist on our island?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

No matter what talks are taking place now, I think the future of Cyprus was decided a long time ago and Cyprus will be just a small voice in a large crowd.

A small voice in a large crowd is better than no voice at all, which has been the case for Cypriots for the most part of their recent and not so recent history.

Losing traditions is a universal thing and not related with the problem.

Are you absolving Turkey of its role in maintaining a division by an occupying force?

You seem awfully worried a "whole" Cyprus will be swallowed up by the EU and forget Cyprus has always been part of the bigger world and did not lose its identity ... so why should it lose it by being in the EU?

Your concerns sound like those I expect Turks to have who are worried they will lose their hold on Cyprus. Trying to deny as a comfortable and rightful place in the EU because we are safer there from Turks!

I hope that logic does not apply to he Turks in the north, if it does, Cypriots could soon find themselves eating the donkey sausages the Turks are smuggling over the border.

Thanks to you I have found how to reply to your question and add a face . I think it was a terrible offence when the Turks invaded Cyprus and I am sure it was all a well planned scheme for them to do it.
The position now is also well thought out by the British and Americans, I do not think they are in any way concerned about what the people of Cyprus think, the foundations have been laid for the future already. :(

Maybe. Cyprus was Christian for 1500 years before the Muslims invaded us. If the Ottomans had made their empire over Muslim lands then maybe there wouldn't be any problems today.

Or at least if when they conquered the Christian lands they didn't transfer their Muslim populations in them! That would mean that when their empire was over the problems would be over also!

Stop dreaming Sotos, you will give yourself a hernia. All these if this happened if they did this, if they did that. Wake up man. Dead is yesterday................

Welcome Maynard23 but you have been a bit obfuscated

Can you expand on this knowledge you have of the foundations which have been laid, as you have made reference to them twice without clarification.

Richard dear ... do not be taken in too quickly ..

There are a few Turks coming on here trying to divide the Cypriots and the British now that they are beginning to finally put their past misdemeanors (the little regrettable matter of divide and rule) behind them.

The modern way is to remind ourselves that Cyprus and Britain are EU partners, hence allies against the Turks when push comes to shove.

I've tried to put MedByz to rights above, regarding our present kinship with the Brits ... who are finally signing in all the right places. :D

Shock and horror. O allies herself with the Brits. Henceforth Bubbles loves you.

The truth is that Turks and British are the allies and this has been so for many decades under the guidance of the Americans.

Why do you think the TCs today believe that they are the super minority (or even the oxymoron that they are not a minority at all) and that they deserve disproportionately large amounts of land and power on our loss? Do you think the TCs by themselves would start demanding such unfair things?

The TCs demand such things because Britain and Turkey promise to them that they can have such gains if they collaborate with them in order to stop Cyprus from archiving a true self-determination. That is called "divide and rule" and they do it as much today as they did it in the 50s.

Piratis .... I know what the British did in the past with divide and rule of TCs and GCs.

But why do you think the Turks are getting worried now that the Cypriots and British may find common ground to move away from the past and behave like EU partners in the future?

This is just the impression I have.

Being cynical I am worried that just as the Turks try to divide and rule Greeks and Cypriots (by denying our Hellenic ancestry) they might also try and divide and rule the British and Cypriots now they are both EU members

As a tactic "d & r" can be used by anyone, and we know the Turks used it just as effectively as the Brits did in the past.

The few brain cells you have have now been invaded by paranoia my dear O. You should come to the UK to cool down. The heat is getting to you.
