Are Cypriots status concious ?

Postby purdey » Tue Jul 08, 2008 9:49 am

Are they the Noveau Riche of Europe. Do they believe money pushes them up the so called social ladder. Do they like to show off their apparent wealth, or do they believe there is more to life than money ?

You don't have to keep up with the Charalambous's here, you just make sure you have nicer houses and cars than them!

Social animals are more intelligent than solitary animals.

Social status is practiced by all such members of a group and many rituals are established to exhibit any advantages of one member over another.

Hence Alpha males etc.

Physical or intelligence attributes are directly proportional to status in groups, hence driving evolution and species improvement.

So what is your point purdey ... are Cypriots more intelligent and able than others?

so are you saying that those people with a better standard of education are higher in status than those less educated?

Education is just another tool whereby parents attempt to give their offspring a survival advantage ....

Again practicing "education" for better survival skills-acquisition happens to a degree in all social species.

Ergo that "Education" confers a social advantage, becomes indisputable.

I don't think Purdey was actually speaking about education, but wealth as in money and/or assetts. I believe Cypriots do indeed show off their wealth with houses, cars etc but no more or less than anyone else I know. As for me, I never try and keep up with the Joneses - I just drag them down to my level

see i have a problem with this wealth and education thing. take for instance the gypsy people , lots of them cannot read or write. they still manage to have nice things , nice caravans and new merc's . they show off their wealth but have little or no education.

Quite right Tess. I was also asking a question, not trying to make a point.

I think you have a problem in distinguishing between Life-skills Education and Formal Education.
